Karoo's 2016 Glog

Hi all,
this is the start of a new season as most of you are at the peak of yours.
I grow for my own enjoyment . I enjoy germinating ,growing , eating , drying and saucing peppers.
Some peppers and sauces might end up as presents , but I don't sell peppers, sauces or seeds.

I have built my own grow box with T5 CFL lights and aluminium foil for reflexion.
Germination was with the modified paper towel method in 100ml pill vials at 30 degrees C.
First seeds were in the vials on paper on July 11.

Lists and pics to follow.

So for a total of 76 new plants and 18 Overwintered.

I am about 3 weeks away from going outside. This is hopefully the start of a small indoor forest.

Looks good. I love the excitement of germinating seeds and the excitement of watching them pop. I want to start some seeds right now. I'm holding off until a couple months, to see what I'm going to OW.

Good luck with the grow and have fun.

Thanx
The 16 Jalapenos and 18 Guajillos are more than I intended due to my germination addiction.:-)

Some will be gifts to try and establish a local pepper culture.

I think most of my overwinters come from you.
Hey Jacques, lol now there's a surprise :) Last season was a shocker... but hopefully more representation for South Africa this season!

Started my germination last month, but used 30 Vol Hydrogen Peroxide instead of 10 Vol in my pre-soak liquid... couldn't understand why nothing was happening - duh! Lol starting again this weekend... practice makes perfect! One small mistake - big problems!
I always aim for first week of October for going outside to eliminate any late cold snaps or early season hail storms... so still time to catch up :)

Here we are ,30 days from first plant/moisture/heat . I am quite happy with my first 30 days.

From left to right.
One full tray of 9 Guajillos.
Second tray , left row 3 7PotBBG and right row 3 peach bhut.
Third tray , left 3 cherry bomb and right row 3 red bhut.

So, it has been 6 weeks since my seeds hit dirt/paper and I have been blessed with a great germination and growth.
At this stage you can see the big difference between the Annuums and the rest in growth.

I am starting the great transplant and hardening off ,which is not a problem in the weak late winter sun.

A few shots of those in trays and small pots. They get sun by day and lights by night.
The rest stay in the shed overnight to escape the frost.
This is my overwinter greenhouse/shed.You might see a few overwinters out in front.

Looking good Karoo... looks like a super start for the year ;) Just watch that sun... deceptively strong - even for this time of the year!

Time to dig up the compost.
Just a big hole in the ground. Fill it with all leaves, lawncuttings and even thin branches. Wait for two years and dig it up. Good for pots ,raised beds, topping and mulching. I am chuffed.
