Curcurbita argyrosperma var. sororia

Aka Wild Cushaw, native to Arizona, is a wild squash. Was determined by archeologists that this species was domesticated in Central Mexico at least 5,000 years ago. I decided to pick up a packet of the seeds from Native Seed Search, it's a seed bank in Tucson, Arizona where only native plants can be found, and only people living in AZ, NM and TX can purchase seed.

Anyways, just thought it would be fun to grow an AZ native plant. Not much info on this other than what I found on the seed packet. Just gunna start some seeds in jiffy seed starters then plant in the back yard. Pictures to come.

Neat, glad to see people growing native plants. Keep us posted!
Thanks I really am interested to see how these do. I believe it's a vine-ing plant like a pumpkin, and if I am not mistaken the flowers are similar to a pumpkins. Not really sure. Wild plants fascinate me.

I'll be moving it outside when I get a chance. It's actually very fast growing, the coty's opened yesterday and I already notice the start of a leaf. Should be interested, winter isn't that bad here and since it is a native to my area I think it will be fine.

I forgot to mention that the Native Americans use these to ween the babies off of milk. It's extremely bitter. Going to wait til next year to try again. I put it in soil and it died the next day.
