Rick Bayless does it again with his Frontera brand Mole Simmer Sauce.
I have always been a fan of his and never hesitated to try a new product. I saw this at Hank's (our grocery store) the other day and grabbed it without even thinking about it. I have bought just about every other pre-made Mole sauce out there and they all suck. This one is a home run, especially at $2.69 ! The ingredients list is simple but holy cow the true Ancho flavor is all there. Chocolate isn't listed in the ingredients but evaporated cane sugar is, which is fine with me. This mole is so close to mine that I could probably fool my friends with it. It has zero heat but I fixed that with my Red Savina powder.
I have only had it once and I pretty much served as directed, except instead of 4 whole chicken breasts, I cut up two into bite size pieces, did a quick sauté, and poured the sauce in. Simmered for 10-15 minutes, served with Basmati rice and refried black beans, and of course, roasted corn tortillas. Sorry I have no pictures but I truly thought it wouldn't be worth taking pictures of. I was wrong. Besides, pictures of chicken in sauce really don't come through that well. Next time I serve this, I will quickly char a whole breast on the grill, then cut it up, then simmer it.
If this was a ten star rating, I would give it all 10, especially being a store bought item. LOVE IT!
