Thank you for posting the photos... later in the season it would be my pleasure to send you some seed. Fingers are crossed for the bonnet seed to pop. I grew out Beth Boyds Yellow/Orange SB and have past to many forum members ensuring that strain remains available to all to enjoy

I made a mistake in the first caption - the habanero brand was brought by Scott Parkhurst, not Steve. This is from 2002

Edited to add, in 2007 Steve couldn't make it so we built our own Steve in effigy.
 

 
I'm afraid by the time the raffle came around, Effigy Steve had over-done it a bit.

John, check out what I just found, buried in a box, in the corner of my basement! Got these from Mike (Smokemaster) at the end of the 2015 season, for when I did that strictly Bonnet grow in 2016. If I'm remembering correctly, I actually DID get one of Steve's Bonnets to germinate, but lost the seedling shortly thereafter. I thought I'd sown them all that year, but apparently not.....

I'll start soaking these in the next day or two:

"SBS Scotch Bonnet" (from 2005, I'm assuming they're the 'original' seeds), and some other stuff. Possibly 'original' Foodarama SB seeds from Beth?


Some more of Beth's stuff (not even sure what variety is in the bag with her card on it; it's not labeled)


And, *I think* these could possibly be 'original' seeds from Allen Boatman's "True Jamaican Scotch Bonnet"


If anything sprouts, you can be 100% sure that I'll grow them all out in isolation

Mike pure gold .... I really hope you are successful in getting a few of those seeds to germinate. Smokemaster kindly sent me some seeds a few years ago but unfortunately they were not viable

Have read on the forum lately a chemistry wizard using peroxide and I think it was oxygenated distilled water for old seeds .... sorry if I got that wrong might have dreamt it after a large glass of Shiraz

I don't read as many pepper groups as I once did, but sometimes a thread catches my interest as this one has.   Scotch Bonnet Steve (SBS) was quite the guy.  Without him and some other very generous people back in the day, my fun in the pepper world may have been a lot different than it turned out!  He was a real stand-up persons who truly cared about others and one of the best growers I have run across.  He would send me fresh pods that I'd look at in awe and wonder how anyone could get them that big. lol   He had some magical soil.  Maybe it's time to dig into the seed stash to see what's there.  I do remember that Scotch Bonnet well.  I am guessing I probably have stored my seeds under better conditions than most over all these years so may have higher germination.  I'll report back.
 
Sometimes I see vendors sell some of his varieties, but many times what they show as a picture is far different than how I remember the pepper looking when I got it.  Maybe accidental crossing, instability, or who knows?

Certainly, instability can be a factor. Even so, credit goes to Steve and Beth (and others) for at least developing the cultivars. Time will tell which traits stay true.
 
 

Is Jim Campbell on this site?

I don't know if Jim is here but he has very little time to spend online. He quit the pepper biz and went higher up the ranks in the fire department.

I have two SBS Habanero plants this being the biggest with the smaller one to the left. Plenty of flowers and a few pods

I will keep updating but please give me a shout if you would like to continue Steve’s legacy by growing this variety... such a shame I couldn’t get one of his bonnets to germinate
