How many F2s seedlings should I grow out?

I have some crosses in F1 now, wondering how many f2 seedlings I should grow out to get a wide array of variance, without growing out hundreds of seedlings. I do have limited space to grow these out.

As many as possible.
If F1 was isolated, intentional Clean cross, made from pure seeds,to make the cross, then less.

Too many people assume the 2 original donors of a cross were pure due to looks....they really don't know.
7 isolated cross f7 shows the red headed stepchild.

I grew what I thought was pure seeds 1 time in isolation for 6-7 seasons, after that they never looked the same.

The only way to know what your cross is is using pure seeds for making the cross-Disect the buds so you have only male or female bud parts to make the cross.
A q tip isn't cool.
Lots of each buds stuff to get past to let the cross happen.
Just like dogs,a litter can be as many crosses as the males she was mated with.
In this case,it can be a cross or a self pollinated seed from the same pod.

I have intentional crosses from a few different isolated baccatum x chinese and baccatum x baccatum varieties (these are not new super hot varieties, rather old heirloom types) which I purchased. Unfortunately I don't know the isolation practices of the original vendors, Buckeye pepper and Pepperlover.
Does 10 of each sound reasonable? I just need to get these to fruit in 6" pots to select the ones I want to keep for the long term.

"Do you feel Lucky" LOL
I just edited my post to try and make it Maybe more understandable.

If you are low on grow space,I'd grow whatever you have room for, grow before the seeds get old, then pick the coolest ones to re grow.

I feel your pain.so many Peppers to grow,so little Garden space.

What about F1s? How many do you plant? As much as possible?

From what I understand, F1 fruit is all pretty much the same, and you don't see all the variations until the recessive genes show up in F2. Show would it just be a crapshoot to know what F1 seeds to save? And just save as much as you can to grow out F2s, so you have a bigger pool to pull from for F3.

I grew out 6 f2 plants from my aji inti this year. Every one of them are different. I selected the best of the group to move on to f3. Who knows what other phenos could of popped up if I had planted more. I've been sharing the shit out of my f1 pods this year and sent a bunch of seeds out as well so the community can help with the selection process.

Do you , anyone who crosses peppers, only grow out the crosses in isolation until you get f1, f2, f3 etc.?
Or do you ever cross f1xf1 of the same cross but other plant and again cross f2xf2 , to stabilize earlier.?

I say on average 8-16 F2 plants.  I think Smokemaster gave very good advice. :)   2-4 plants on F2s doesn't show much.

Chris
Thanks Chris, I was planning on 10 of each, but may go up to 20 on some select crosses that were a real pain.
