Here are a couple of my ornamental's, a rainbow and omni color. I really like the coloring on the rainbow.

Yes they are edible. I'll make a sauce from both varieties. The omni have a fruit/citrus flavor and are about twice as hot as the rainbows at 50,000. 
 
Except for this one, Solanum pseudocapsicum aka Jerusalem cherry. I bought these years back and they always seem to call them ornamental peppers and I almost ate them, good thing I googled. Maybe there's more but this one is often sold as ornamental peppers and is toxic
 
Yes, Jerusalem Cherry is toxic, but it is not actually a pepper plant, it only looks like one. It is Solanum Pseudocapsicum, and hence it is not a member of the Capsicum genus (it's genus is Solanum). Therefore it is not a chile pepper. Anything in the genus Capsicum, e.g., Capsium Annuum, Capsicum Chinense, Capsicum Baccatum, etc will be edible and non-toxic. That Jerusalem Cherry is a good one to be aware of though, since it resembles a pepper, but it actually is not. It's a little disturbing to hear that some people are mislabeling that thing as an ornamental pepper  :shocked: I guess the lesson is to be very sure that any "ornamental peppers" you buy are really chile peppers, and not something else that only resembles a pepper.

Lol yeah I don't mean technically a capsium but I mean ornamental peppers could be toxic since the Jerusalem cherry is often labeled as a pepper
