Caldo Verde

Also know as Portuguese Green soup, Usually this soup is non spicy but i have an idea. Some of the recipes call for a little smoked sausage. I have some smoked sausage with jalapeno in them. It is also usually served with a type of cornbread, I was thinking some hatch chile cornbread, The sausage i have is relatively mild but it should add a tiny bit of zip. Im not sure how well it will pair with the kale.

Does it sound like its worth a shot? Ive never made Caldo Verde before.

Is there anything better than Hatch Chile cornbread, That sounds so good right now lol. Also craving a bowl of menudo with a wedge of lime. Hope your Caldo turns out great! Merry Christmas!

Caldo verde has a thousand different variations, depending on what part of Brazil you are in.  Some people blend the kale and potatoes (or yucca), some chiffonade (sp?) it.  It is standard to use "calabreza", kind of like a Brazilian version of chorizo.  Whenever I make it, I put chiles in, but hatch is kind of a big difference from a Brazilian style chili.  Doesn't mean it won't work, it's just different.  The standard chiles in Brazil are dedo de moça and malagueta.

Another common finishing is crispy bacon on top.

Another style would be to use yucca instead of a traditional potato.

Sorry I was a little late to the party, how'd it turn out?
