Buzzfeed's "32 Hot sauces You Must Try Before You Die"

Nice mention.

Thanks - a lot of good small brand stuff on the list!

So rare - I once asked the Thrillist folks why every list they've done is loaded with multi-million dollar massive brands and they basically said it was about SEO - if they did a list like this one, no one would find it, but when they put Tabasco, Tapatio, Sriracha on the list it gets a ton of clicks and their ads generate revenue.

So small brands never have a chance. Great to see Buzz Feed do this in that light - and even more cool that it is a reader-generated list. They solicited their readers for the recommendations. I'm honored to have been named enough to make it to #2.

Honestly, the list seems kind of uninformative and definitely wouldn't entice me to import anything. Plus, Grace has not impressed me with their beverage line and Dave's Insanity is the exact opposite of underrated.
If you want an underrated Dave's, go for something mild or his all natural Scorpion sauce, either of which would have a much better taste to them.

Still, congratulations to you Lucky Dog. It's got to be a massive confidence boost to know you have that kind of fan presence and, from what I've heard on the board, you definitely deserve whatever added custom the publicity brings.

The list is underwhelming. But the point is.

Lucky Dog getting press. :woohoo:

Susie's and Hank's look interesting...

I've heard good things about Susie's, and I tried one Hanks - it was tasty.

As for the other stuff, someone must've missed what I said about SEO - lising Dave's gets that list to float to the top along with the other Dave's content. If I had to guess, I'd say that's why they were included (plus people probably named it) ;)

Sure, listing Dave's does and Dave's Insanity moreso but why Dave's Original Insanity when Dave's Insanity Scorpion Sauce is all the heat and none of the file extract flavour? If it was just a try before you die list, it would make sense to include the icon but an "underrated" sauce list should be a bit more out there.

Likewise, who searches Sriracha by brand? Any Sriracha would do for SEO and I know for a fact there are some different ones out there.

I didn't write the list. Why complain to me? Just be happy for the small artisan makers who did get a shout out.

No list I've ever seen has been perfect and none are ever likely to be. It was created by Buzzfeed, not NASA, FFS.

And compared to the thrilllist with Tabasco, tapatio, sriracha, Dave'a, it's a definite improvement when it comes to helping smaller companies like mine get a little bit of visibility. .

Write a letter to buzzfeed if you feel so strongly/negatively. This topic is not the Buzzfeed complaint Dept. It's just a dumb list, compiled by reader suggestions. No one said it was a perfect list. And despite you crapping all over it (a second time) I'm proud to have my company listed.

You sound like the dude at McDonalds complaining that his food wasn't amazing, or the dude who went to a whorehouse complaining you just didn't feel loved.

It's a list - try not to let it effect you so deeply.

IDK, I feel like going to a list of "underrated sauces" and seeing mostly big names is, to use your analogy, like going to a whore house and being told no sex until the third date.

Regardless of how I feel about the list though, I read the topic because I was interested, not because I was looking for an argument or wanting to rain on anyone's parade. I stated my opinion and gave potentially valid and debatably constructive counterpoints to your rebuttal (and accusation of not reading the thread). I did not say anything negative about you or your business and I did not intend to offend you in any way.

This was never meant to be personal. I was merely throwing my 2 cents into what appeared to be an open discussion. I'm sorry it got so heated.

So did it not occur to you that by trying so hard to discredit the list, by proxy you're also making a statement about all of the sauces included on it?

Also, it's not "mostly big names" - my company is tiny. You're talking to it right here. 1 guy. And from what I can tell, 70% of that list is made up of small brands like mine. It's great to see Douglas Crane's "Dragon's Blood Elixir" listed, for example, among others - small companies that work hard to make good products, yet rarely get major media press because we're not big enough to generate SEO clicks.

I'm sorry it got so heated.

I'm not heated at all - I just don't appreciate negativity in response to something that should be considered a positive for the hot sauce community/small business. It would be nice to see folks being supportive of such things.
