Compare n Contrast to find Success

I dont think there is a thing wrong with wanting to provide for ones family.  So lets talk about monetary success in the pepper business rather than other forms of success.  In the three seasons PBM has been online, we have done OK for ourselves.  Not rolling in money or anything like that, but managing and growing thanks to great patrons and friends.  Still, I know I can do better by my family.  So thinking on what others have done to improve their business in the field.

Have picked three businesses to compare and contrast.  Hope we can have a discussion on their business models more than the personalities that run them.

Pepper Joe - Seems fairly well off.  Seems to stick mainly with seed stock.  I think he has grown into a buy / sell sort of business.  I think he used to grow himself, but now has people contract to grow his seed stock.  I remember when there were complaints about the seed count in Carolina Reapers, he said that his people would be doing all the packaging to get the count right from then on.  So I assume he has employees that package seed stock.

Refining Fire Chili - From his videos, I get the feeling he is a hands on business owner.  I also get the feeling he is working class, hires his neighbors kids to help keep up, sells plants from his own suburban home.  Sells seeds, plants, and some dried pods.  Although we are much more rural and a fraction of his size, I feel most kin to his business because he seems so very involved, so very much a part of the every day work.

Puckerbutt - I think multiple retail locations.  From his videos, onsite commercial kitchen.  Sells seeds, but I get the feeling the focus is on hot sauce.  Multiple full time employees.  Appears very successful.  With the various videos and interviews, I get the feeling a lot of their business is contracting grows for the hot sauce companies.

So that is three fairly well known businesses in the pepper business.  They all have some things to compare and contrast.  What do you think are their high points and low points, what is pushing them forward or holding them back.  Most importantly for those of us making a go at the pepper business, what can we learn from these three successful businesses?
