chinense Chocolate Bhutla CS

Jim Duffy is now offering Chocolate Bhutla CS.  The letters come from its creator Chad Soleskij, but anyone who was in the military will know why the letters CS are really funny for a hot pepper.  From what I am reading, Mr. Soleskii created the Red Bhutlah and his chocolate is a natural variant.

Mr. Duffy offers another version too.  I think that brings the count on Chocolate Bhutlah strains to 7.

I'm going to buy the Chad type and the type he says is just like the SM type. I have Judy's, and I have the UK type. I'll have all 4 going at the same time and bring them all to hot pepper night and we will get a lot of opinions on heat and taste. Bhutlahs make some of the most mellow, but hot, powder, as chocolates go. I'll always be a collector. I just can't help myself. I'm getting the chocolate reaper seeds too. I just got seeds from the chocolate primo pods, so next year I get to compare chocolate reapers and primos as well. 2017 is going to be a great chocolate pepper year!

Chocolate Reaper is another one that people have gone ape over.  Is it a real chocolate reaper.  Is it just a chocolate scorpion.  Not sure why, but there seem to be particular peppers that people get real angry about.

Indeed! I have grown Bakers chocolate reaper the past 2 years. I do not believe it is a pure reaper, nor is it a pure scorpion (I have had Bakers chocolate scorpion and this is not it). I do think it is possibly a reaper x chocolate scorpion or douglah cross. It is very hot and the plant I have throws really large gnarly pods. I like this pepper a lot. To me it has a nice flavor and makes great powder. It may be my 3rd or 4th favorite chocolate super hot, after Lava, brainstrain, and maybe brown moruga.

I think there are lots of different strains by the same name.  Mine popped up first year I grew Carolina Reaper.  Been goofing with it, trying to get consistency for some time.  Like with the original red reaper, if I cut the seeds out and flush the inside with cold water I like them in cooking.  I think of them about like I think of the original red.  Nothing spectacular.  My tongue kind of falls asleep after ghost pepper heat so probably a bad judge.

Ye, short of Star Trek like DNA I dont think we really have a hope of telling the difference between natural variant and unintended cross.  Even if you buy isolated seed stock from the best of sources, there is no 100% sure short of growing on a space ship surrounded by the vacuum of space.

It didnt grow out right this year.  Looks like perfect moruga scorpion and I mean perfect.  It looks more like a moruga scorpion than my moruga scorpion.  All I can figure is that something damaged the plant so it threw the wonky pods and now I am seeing its true dna.  On the bright side, it did give me the idea for the Satan's But Plug hot sauce joke.  I do love it when a project turns out good, but even when it turns out odd it is fun.

Chocolate reaper? Is that a bhutla reaper cross? That sounds like a wonderful cross
There are a few now.  Probably the best known is CPR which Mr Taylor named Chocolate Primo Reaper because he is not exactly sure what it is.  I flat LOVE the honestly because when a thing shows itself, you cant really be sure.  I had a chocolate pop up a while ago.  Is it a natural variant or did the seed producer have an unexpected cross?  Who knows cause insects are tricky little buggers.  I love it all.
