New variety flack figured out.... maybe

You know how when some new varieties are introduced there is a lot of flack but when others are introduced not so much?  I am developing a theory.  I think when someone introduces something with too much flare, people are put off.  But when someone says something more like: Hey check out this cool new thing I am goofing with, not so much.  I admit I am kind of put off by the hype that some people use, but its still a new pepper to play with. 
 
Curious if other folk feel about the same.  That despite all the off putting hype, you are still interested in the pepper itself or if the hype puts you off to the pepper.

get actual real reviews / test results then the hype creates itself, no need to do much besides provide info to curious folks.

Yeah I'm with you AJD. I fell for the hype when the Carolina Reaper came out and knew I just had to have it. I got seeds from Pepperlover.com (sure, not the original source but trustworthy all the same) I had a hard time keeping the seedlings alive and the few that did provided minimal pods the first year. Much better now but my disappointment was/is that these pods are so damn hot I can't taste the flavor at all.
I love Habanero's and Fatalii's and Ghost peppers for heat and flavor.
 
I heard great thing's about Peach Congo so grew a few of them only to find out I don't like the flavor of Peach Congo
 
On the flip side, the Aji Amarillo surpasses all the hype I heard about it and will be a permanent mainstay in my yard.

There is the thing though.  I catch myself not wanting to buy seed because it is being sold with too much hype.  No matter how it is pushed, a pepper is still the same pepper.  It shouldnt bother me.  Then there is the interesting personalities selling seed stock.  Example: I have never had a problem with dealer X, joined THP and he is disliked.  Now I hesitate to buy from dealer X even though I have never had a problem with him.  I should just be thinking, hey hey has a pepper I want and not care.
