El Salvadorian Pupusas Vendor

The Hot Pepper

Location: Red Hook Park, Brooklyn, NY.

At Red Hook Park in Brooklyn, the ethnic food vendors are very popular. Lines form that wrap around the park. Today I went at a time when the lines had died down a bit, but I chose the longest line, as this looked like the most popular vendor. It was traditional El Salvadorian pupusas. The sign said something like "Original Red Hook El Salvadorian Pupusas Since 1990". When I was on line, I noticed they had pupusas at the vendor next door, but no one was in line. Good sign that I am in the right place. Pupusas are hand made tortillas that are stuffed when then tortilla is made, so even though there were only about six people ahead of me, this meant 20-30 minutes. It was worth the wait. I got a loroco flower and cheese, and a jalapeno and cheese pupusa. It comes with pickled cabbage, and I grabbed what I thought was hot sauce, but it tasted like marinara. I wonder if they have hot sauce? I'll check next time. I put some Cape Fear Red Savina on them. Perfect. Loroco flower tastes a bit like artichoke hearts... really delicious! Everything was great. See pix!

You can't beat a $5 lunch like this. You can get pork and other veggies too.
