God, I feel like such a twat for not voting in this TD the first time around. You guys obviously put too much effort into this for me to be wasting all my time in HBT and talking about Oreos.
This one is going to be hard. TC's shrimp... That brown crust you got going' on in that one pic where the shrimp is juuuuuust starting to turn pink shows me that you got that heat way up there. Doin' some maillard damage to those proteins and sugars. That wins points from Mr. Emissivity.
Grass Snake takes the point in ingredients in my book, though. If I'm doing Chinese (or just about anything else) in my kitchen, I like to use fresh stuff. Except for tomatoes and some other specific things... Some canned stuff just seems like watery, salty filler. Whenever I order pizza from a new place, I ask if they use fresh or canned 'shrooms. It can be a deal breaker.
Both of the final pics look like something I would have been proud (surprised) to have cooked for myself at home. This will be hard.

I'd face-plant into both of those dishes!  Only thing that gave 1010 the nudge was the little bit of sear crispy on the prawns.

Excellent cooking by ALL the contestants, this was a tough one to vote for in all categories.

Side note- I was watching all the cooking last weekend and jonesing big time for Chinese food.  We were traveling, so I went to a local joint for some takeout.  YUCK!!!  we threw most of it out.  But yesterday, following Ozzy's post for Mongolian beef, I made some kickass Mongolian Beef (with broccoli) and finally got my fix.  YUM!  Lo-Mein was the second choice to make yesterday based on you guys's cooking.

As always, thanks for everyone's efforts and inspirational cooking!

I like TC's choice of goatsweed as a heat source. De arbol is a good one too, but I like that sour punch of goatsweed in a dish like this.
I like to toss a few in the oil along with the garlic before the meat goes in. It browns a little bit and adds a nice toasty volatile chile aroma to the dish.
Grass Snakes final dish looks really appealing, but I think I have to go with Terry's. That shrimp pic shows me you did just what needed to be done to that meat.

Since we have a Drama Queen tiara,  WingWinners, how about a 1/2 crown if it ends in another tie????  Maybe one of those Roman woven crown thingies?

Just keeping the discussion going~  ;)

I don't feel as crazy now. I have asked this many times. Do you want mushrooms? (and fresh have a dry texture on the outside, which is awesome) OR do you want waterlogged slime sponges? (canned shrooms) lol. Been there. Done that. Fresh is best for shrooms.

I also took notice of the slight sear on TC's shrimp. The addition of water chestnuts adds a texture that also helped me in the original vote. And less cabbage (and lack of bok choy). I know it may be traditional but I find bok choy stringy and I discard it.

It was really really hard for me to vote against those Goatsweeds  :snooty:

But Grassy's healthy dose of cabbage, pak choy and lack of baby corn sold me. And his noodles have a greasy sheen that reminds me of Chinatown. But TC hit it outta the park too, It was a tough decision.

None taken. After I looked at both dishes, I knew it woukd be close. They pretty much looked identical. It really came down to personal preferences. GS did a great job and I was pretty happy with mine. I made it again for the girls without the shrimp, but I added bok choy. That is what is great about lomein, you can really put in whatever veggies suite your tastes. I am glad I entered this one.
