contest Growdown Throwdown 2017 Aji Lemon Drop!

IMG_8784.JPG

I should have a nice little harvest this weekend.

Wow, lots going on here in contestville!
Good on all 'ya!

First, the good news...
Finally another round ripened up.
There are a number also starting to ripen.

145.375 gr.

Last total: 160.375 gr.

New total 305.75 gr.

Now the bad news. My competition plant has acquired some
kind of disease. Maybe i was overwatering with the cooler temps,
so dialed it back a bit.

See for yourselves. The pods get these 'lesions',
then fall off the plant. The ripe pods are unaffected.

Hoping that the return of more seasonal weather
might mitigate things a bit. Good growin', all!

Try feeding with some type of balanced fert? A micronutrient dense solution. Something with some good calcium, magnesium, manganese, iron etc, hell, just feed it!

It's sad that these plants can't simply tug on your shirttail and ask for a 3-1-2 highball or a hot towel, ain't it? I have 40 plants total in one state of production or another, some actually overproducing, which is great. But I only have one doing this:

This is my competition plant, flowering, podding up, and discoloring merrily along. No lesions, but this "sunscald" can't be normal, or I'd have seen it on more of the lemon drops on these pages. Not one of my other pepper plants are showing this anomaly, and some/most of my others are getting more direct sunlight than this.

The moisture seen is the result of an all-night soaker.

...and not a single ripe pod yet.....

Finally my very first ripe lemon drop!  That really took ages!

I ate it right after weighing it. Taste was great and it was much less hot than I expected. But I must admit that I removed seeds and placenta before eating it! :D

Hey hey!  9 grams officially in the books!  Congrats!  I'm still working on getting my first pod.  Soon though....soon :)

Mike

Suddenly they all start to ripen! Here's another 39 grams for me, bringing the total to 59 grams!
The one next to the scale is an aji cito. They say aji cito is one of the hottest baccatums... I ate the first ripe one I got my hands on and found it only a little hotter than the lemon drop. Taste was similar too. Now I'm awaiting the ripening of my aji pineapples, so I can compare the taste with the lemon drop also :)

Still waiting on them to ripen up.

Grand total 0g

It's gotta be some kind of sunscald, Joe. My plant has been shedding leaves as well, leaving little cover for pods. If you have a lot of exposure it may be a thing to semi-shade your plant. I'm going to set mine slightly under the eaves of the house, maybe it'll trigger some ripening. This contest is one thing, but I want some good powder out of this too....
