OCD 2017!!!

Well it's 2017. Finally! Last year was a success, as far as the ground plants were concerned. Virgin, clay ground. My Chinese got smacked by hail twice! No room for error with those. Out of 12 plants I got ONE BBG. First and only. That variety is cursed. Tried for the past 3 years and some sort of calimity happens.

This year I decided to try 21+ different varieties of the BBG. I have 9 Reaper crosses. 21 and counting other varieties. I built a hoophouse and some COB led's. Planning on getting them outside in March sometime. That might be a delusion, beings I'm in Colorado. We shall see. There is only a few varieties that I've grown before. The rest are all new. I'm planning on isolating most of them.

Just started some Lemon Drops for Throwdown Growdown. I will wait a couple weeks before I start the others. Everything needs to be in order before I germinate. No turning back at that point. I want two plants from most varieties. Plants need to be woody by ground day. That's the only way I have a chance at success with late maturity varieties. If I have extras, I'll give away to my friends of THP.

I guess my PDN is a darker purple, but my Pimenta Leopard and CGN 21500 are green-leafed, purple-stemmed. Great job with your CFL's! I can't wait to see some of those varieties fruit!

No problem. I needed to take note. Part of a glog for me is sharing. The other part is documentation. I can go back to previous glog a and see dates, temps and progress. Then I can find what works for me.

Thanks Sim. They are moving along, just slowly. The temps in the shed are to still to cold at night. I have a heater but it only keeps it in the 50's. I actually moved from cfl's to diy led light I built, when I went to the shed. The light is intense though. Here is a pic of the light. Sorry about the mess. Haven't had enough time to tidy up the place. I need to do the same to the wiring. Had it all nice and neat until I had a couple fans not working properly. Had to tear into the wiring and fix. Need to tie it all back up.

Everything looks A-OK Chuck! About the loose wiring... peh, what's a picnic without a few ants? ;)
 
Bummer about the COB lights being too intense for the seedlings in the middle. Is it a heat or light issue? Fans to dissipate heat is an obvious fix... if it's too much intense light... have you thought about lenses that diffuse the light instead of concentrate it?
 
I hope you're closer to plant-out than we are here. Days are mostly in the upper 40s to mid 50s and nights are in the upper 20s to upper teens. Today we're having a winter-y mix of rain and snow. Roll on Spring! :pray:

The loose wiring was on the fans. Unfortunately if the fan goes out the leds won't last long. One of those led chips is around $50. I think it is to intense of a light. God help you if accidentally look at one. I don't think it's color. I'm in the 6500k range. With the fans going everything is cool. I have to keep a heater going for temps. I raised them up and they seem to be doing much better. All the ones around the border of the light are doing really well. I wish I would have made a longer frame. I could easily double my area with these lights. I may take the reflectors off.

Dirt day? Don't know. I'm going to order some solar mulch and get the irrigation set up soon. I'll hold up in the shed as long as it takes to get them taller.

You are correct. Snowboard and gear. Not mine. It's the girlfriends. I dont do anything in the snow. I hate the stuff. I tried it once. Not good at all. Weird, I used to be damn good on a skateboard. Now I'm to old for that stuff. All broken up at 40.

I was just noticing the Average frost at the bottom of you posts. Should just like mine. I looked it up and planted in the ground May 26th last year.
 
Can't wait to see things in the dirt Chuck! Using the hoop house and the IRT mulch, shouldn't you be able to cheat the plant date by 3 or 4 weeks? I see you said 5/26 for last year. If you're like me time is the issue. I never have enough..
 
And yeah, at 40 all the past abuse starts to creep up on us. That and we don't bounce near as well!

Not going to put anything outside full time until things warm up. Suppose to hit the 70's for awhile. 40's at night. My hoophouse will help soon enough.

I couldn't agree more. I'm a little disappointed that plants are not shooting out roots since pot up. I was second guessing my mix. I checked today a couple plants that are growing well. They have a good amount of new roots, so it's not the mix. I'm almost certain it's the cold nights that are holding them back. It's been in the 40's in there at night. I just picked up a better heater. Should help a little. I may need to add plastic walls around the plants for insulation. I'm just afraid the daytime temps would do more damage. I'm drawing up plans as we speak for a shed/grow-room. Something insulated.

I would like to get them outside by the end of this month. Im not sure if Spring is here yet. Suppose to hit 20's again tonight and tomorrow night. I've been working one the hoophouse. It should be ready soon enough. I ordered the solar mulch today. As soon as it gets here, I'll get it on the ground and lay drip line. I think I'm going to run new drip on top of the solar mulch. I'll add individual 1/4 inch lines to each plant. If I use the built in emitters under the plastic, I can't clean them out if they get clogged. It's a piece of mind visually seeing what the plant gets.
