OCD 2017!!!

Well it's 2017. Finally! Last year was a success, as far as the ground plants were concerned. Virgin, clay ground. My Chinese got smacked by hail twice! No room for error with those. Out of 12 plants I got ONE BBG. First and only. That variety is cursed. Tried for the past 3 years and some sort of calimity happens.

This year I decided to try 21+ different varieties of the BBG. I have 9 Reaper crosses. 21 and counting other varieties. I built a hoophouse and some COB led's. Planning on getting them outside in March sometime. That might be a delusion, beings I'm in Colorado. We shall see. There is only a few varieties that I've grown before. The rest are all new. I'm planning on isolating most of them.

Just started some Lemon Drops for Throwdown Growdown. I will wait a couple weeks before I start the others. Everything needs to be in order before I germinate. No turning back at that point. I want two plants from most varieties. Plants need to be woody by ground day. That's the only way I have a chance at success with late maturity varieties. If I have extras, I'll give away to my friends of THP.

My list is growing, but not much. Here is some of the varieties that made the cut.

Thanks you, Jane. You are to kind. This storm was quick. I was caught off guard. I don't have cables television. No news. Have to look on my phone for anything.

I really would like to put some sort of shelving in. I was thinking maybe some stand up wire shelves on both sides of the door. I may redesign next year and cut back on plants. I need to come up with a magic number of plants, and stick to it.

You just planted seeds this last week?

If you would like me to send you some plants, let me know.
Chuck, I planted beans, cucumbers, carrots, some flowers on May 15. There's still snow on the ground so I can't see if anything came up or rotted. Thanks again for your plant offer. Thanks to you, I have lots of pepper plants from your seeds. Like you, I may cut back on the number of plants. Who knows? It's beginnng to become a chore. Or maybe I have too many tomato plants? I need a cut-off number of plants. This year was way too many. Again.

Oh, I see. Thought something went wrong and had to replant peppers.

I'll cut back to 100 plants next year. That's half of what I planted this year. I grow plants for my uncle in San Diego. I send him some every year. I may grow for a few others as well.

My goal is to not plant earlier and earlier. Which is what I've been doing the past few years. These Chinese and wilds are very long season plants. I want to start later and later. I think I've found a system were I can sow seeds two months later. That puts me from January to March. The real test is the hoop house. I'll see how long I can extend my season. I need to confide in a member here that can help me with the setup. Its going to be a hydro to soil. That will take less pressure off. I've had these plants since January. Had a little hiccup with soil, but Im back on track.

I wonder how Anthony is doing?

Anthony - if you're here, let us know how things are going for you.

He wrote that he was busy with his kids since they're getting older and in sports. I'm glad that he's back at his 'old' job closer to home. Haven't heard from him since March.

I started peppers later this year, but may change that to even later, maybe first week in Feb. and later for annuums. Your hoop house is a great asset for keeping on track and hardening off those plants. Best of luck with the new setup.

It's so nice to have that backup place where you can extend the growing season. Show us pics in December!

February 1st was my first day of seeding. Went to January.

Yes, with the hoop house I may not need to start until March. If I can keep them going into December, definitely. I was trying for a number crop, but don't think it's feasible. The time and cost is the issue. If I lived somewhere where it didn't freeze, that would be another story. I do love Colorado. I'm just not much of a snow person. I like looking at it up on the mountains, but not at home. I guess that's the Southern Californian in me. LOL!

Nice score on the end fan Chuck! Heck, if you keep on like you're going, you're gonna be "all in" and have your own business centered around your hoophouse.

Thanks Rick!

I don't know if I would like it if money was involved. I would like to make enough to offset my materials. That would be cool if I could just pay for all my nutrients and soil amendments. I'll have to think about that one. In general people seem to buy more flowers and house plants, than vegetables. Unfortunately. Could probably make more on them.

True... There's not much money in chiles since a little goes a very long way for most people. I figure I can cover my own needs for a whole winter with fewer than twenty plants. Maybe the rest could be flowers and/or vegetables?

Well I managed to get the end wall and fan installed. Tidied up the other endwall. Still need a door, but not until I get the fan going. Plants looking good! Potted up the Galapo. Look out. I'm going to be potting up more plants next week.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

I hear you brother. 20 would be great. This year I'm growing for seed stick and trying a few new ones. LOL! Most are all new. Next year I'll cut back. I'll do some powders, pickling and ferments. That's all I need. Plus I want to give away a bunch to friends on here.

Thanks Scott! Thanks Troy!

I think, I'm starting to comprehend. I'll have to get some worthy pics and practice.

I've had bad habits relying on my IPhone. Apple is a bit different with their phones.

I buy the extreme membership every year. It helps with uploading. I'll have to see if it works with the Nikon. The pics I posted with the Nikon, my girlfriend sent them back to me. I used my phone to post.

My girlfriend uses nothing but Apple. We have 5 iPads, 2 iPhones and 3 MacBook pros.

I have a old toshiba laptop for the camera.
If you can hook your camera up to one of your macbook pros the pics will dump into Iphoto and then it is pretty easy to upload to site with the extreme membership. That is what I do. It is pretty straight forward, but feel free to ask if you need any help.

Chuck that's what I do also.I have had a lot of offers to plant in farmers fields, and I turned them all down, I pawn off enough to cover water and supplies.I have a job and if this turned into work then I would quit.

Just love the new home and how you are setting it up, Chuck. As you can tell, the plants are thanking you for your efforts and not making them survive the cold front you just had. ;)
Thanks Randy!

I believe I made the right choice in investing in the green house. In going to call it green house for now on, since it has a fan in it. LOL!

Yeah I use to spend a lot of money on motorcycles and booze. Now its paying bills and chiles. LOL! Not nearly as expensive as my booze consumption.
