Best tasting Thai Pepper?

lek said:
Yes. In Thailand, we have พริกเหลือง
เหลือง = yellow, พริก = pepper.

Agreed, I have the same pack but color wise those are orange and not yellow. :)

These are the ones I got from Thailand that grow yellow

Just curious as to what everyone's opinions are on the best tasting thai pepper.

I prefer these varieties as follows:

1. พริกกะเหรี่ยง
2. พริกขี้หนูสวน
3. พริกเหลือง (This one seems to be orange Thai pepper, you guys talk about)
4. พริกจินดา
5. พริกหนุ่ม

I don't know their names in English. Just put those Thai language in google image search.

I'm Thai but I never heard of orange Thai pepper.

My Neighbor who grew up in Vietnam always tells me that most markets only stock varieties of peppers that sell. So an orange Thai pepper may not make it in certain villages and markets, vendors arent going to take the chance that a pepper wont sell as commerce is even more so important in these villages.

When we first met he would only eat red thai peppers (fresh) but after many years of tasting hot peppers from my garden he has graduated to superhots but now he does powder instead of eating fresh as eating fresh superhots daily can be pretty rough on the stomach.

He does like White Bullet habaneros as the heat is great and it doesnt taste like a habanero.  He really enjoys those fresh

Here is พริกเหลือง(พริก=pepper, เหลือง=yellow) from my refrigerator.  Yummy Yummy!   :) Very good for stir fry.   :fire:

I ordered orange thai from duffy, going through puckerbutts seeds. I really don't like him as an individual but there's some tempting ones in the chris phillips collection.

I didn't think people still bought seeds with all the forums today. Don't give your money to double-dealing vendors. I have a plant in my yard waste bin that has 100 pods on it,I have more than enough seeds, just PM addy.  These are not the large orange thai. Both are good, but these are exceptional. They don't have the the bitter skins on them that some thai do.

*edit*   If you are buying seeds from the Christopher Phillips collection,I will not dissuade you from that. Chris deserves everything good that comes to him.

I didn't order because he wanted to charge $5 shipping. A member has me covered. Most my collection is from the fine members here. Only seeds I've really bought are from ajijoe and samillas

Im trying the large Thai orange next year too and im growing Super Chilis again. I dont really care for Thai peppers though. Ive grown Birdseye and Dragon Chili hybrid. Both just tasted hot to me and not really anything else. I loved the Super Chili even green. Ripe they give cucumber pickles a nice flavor. Green or ripe they also make a great hot vinegar. Just a good all-a-rounder for various uses.

Silly question but do the pods of the small orange thai grow pointing up or down ?

I'm Thai and I've never heard of orange Thai pepper. In Thailand, we grow พริกเหลือง(The color of the pod is orange but Thai people call it yellow). There are high demand for พริกเหลือง in Thailand.  Highly aromatic and the taste is excellent!!!

The pod points downward.

Could the "Thai orange hot" from Semillas be the same variety?

They also have a red version...
