I picked up a couple rhizomes for Christmas sushi. I dont get a chance to make as much sushi as I would like and knew these would not last. So I decided to extend their lives a bit.

Horse radish is awesome!

OH! That is soo cool!!! Or HOOOOTTT as the case may be!

We have a couple patches of horseradish that we hit on occassion. And I've had a dickens of a time sourcing true dried wasabi powder.

So growing wasabi root?.....That's cool!!!

edit- it's a rhizome not a root.... whatever~~~ :lol:

Wasabi, unlike peppers doesn't need any special lighting. These are growing under the ambient light of the kitchen. In nature , wasabi grows in cold mountain streams where direct light from the sun never reaches them.

Lucky you! I am searching a way to grab some, but it looks no chance... Never saw a fresh wasabi to be sold here.

Check with stores in your area that sell sashimi and sushi produce. Maybe a Japanese restaurant.

Probably the UK one would do the job, the US will take maybe too long.
For stores - maybe will search some in Bucharest, this summer. I doubt I can find here, in my city, even if the 2nd or 3rd large in Romania, but who know? Meanwhile, will dig deeper.
