Flavours of the Caribbean (Mainly)

Thought it was about time I put on blog on here as requested by a good friend Gary (wind chicken).
I got to know Gary having done a seed trade over 2 years ago via fb, and have always admired his growing.
As title says most of my grow will be bonnets as I love Caribbean cuisine especially Jerk chicken, curry goat etc.

I started some rocotos quite early as I know they take forever to ripen..

Will make a proper grow list when I receive the p.dreadie select seeds kindly sent by Gary and one I'm pleased to have as a memory to Erin.

Another one already up and waiting to be potted on is Carrot Jolokia which I was kindly sent by Ben (bpiela), took ages to sprout a hook, but got one in the end.

Just waiting on a few stubborn bonnets to show hooks before finalizing what's a keeper.

Know quite a few of the british growers on here as there active members of a forum we all share

Trident
Dennish
Snagglepuss
Heefy Si Borg
Jay
and also Plantguy 76 Jason who is active here and a couple of other forums.

   I hear you Scott , i say there more brutal than a Reaper all day long, its not as brutal in the jam i think the fruits and the jam sugar take the sting out and make it a pleasent warming on your tongue

be nice in your porridge on a cold winters morning lol ;)

Tasty-looking Jam Simmie! I like to make mine with Scotch Bonnets and local Peaches. We have an orchard half a mile down the road that grows big freestone-types that ripen about the same time as the Bonnets. I have a bag of pods in the freezer and you've got me wondering how they'd taste made into jam with the Strawberries that'll be coming out in a month or so...

Sounds superb Rick, bonnet jam is nice heat, strawberry or peach will be good flavour.
I made a batch few months back pineapple and kiwi fruit with Scotch bonnets. Stunning flavour. Win win win.

The Pineapple-Kiwi sounds like a great combo! We are over loaded this season with Peaches; we actually beat the Raccoons to them this year ;)  12 quarts made into jam and other goodies and 12 pounds frozen for future use. Plus all one can eat :D Most from just one tree!

You just need to try the Peach ;)

I'm all coaught up Sim. Sorry I haven't been here in awhile. I feel bad, your always checking out my glog. I'm trying to make the rounds. It's just slow going. LOL!

You mentioned a tunnel. You've got a hoophouse. I vaguely remember you mentioning it, I think.

Cider sounds gooooood. Brew it yourself? You say. Is it a hard cider?

Anyways, love the garden. You all in the U.K. have the perfect yards.

Chuck I was given access to a true cider apple orchard out here in the country last year, can take as many apples as I need.
Had enough to make a good few gallons of true farmhouse cider.
Iv since put in my garden 4 true cider apples including a crab apple ( which is the pollinator and what you need for the tannins) which should bear fruit within 5 years hopefully.
Always wanted to brew a true cider from apples in my own garden,

The cider i made last summer will not be touched until the end of this summer to allow it to mature properly ;)  yeah im fond of the old apple juice

No apologies needed , drop in here anytime its hard to keep up with everyones grow mate , i post on 2 other forums and get lost

Firstly sorry for the slack on updates, but having to rely on "her indoors " phone camera to get pictures in the tunnel and the grow tent, is a PITA especially getting them sent to my phone then sharing across 3 forums.
Anyway the chosen 6 for auto pots are Pixie. Aji Mango. Chocolate Bhutlah. Beth Boyd. CGN 21500. Cappuccino SB.

3 Plants for the chilli grow.
Bonda Mahala. Freeport Orange. Foodarama.

Free standing pots.
Zapotec Jalapeno. Gochu. Trenton Farmers Market.
5 rocotos that can have another month in the tunnel to establish themselves, then their out on their own down the garden semi shade in a raised bed.
De Seda x 2 , Red Rocoto x 2 & Tropical Orange.

5 x P.Dreadie select over my uncle house to be grown in his greenhouse in isolation. iv TOLD him we expect regular pictures or else

Few later sowed plants in the tent might keep as OW, s. See how they look in a month.
Just waiting for a couple more tees for the pipe work to the 6 auto pots, then I can pipe in the last 2 pots. Top water them for 2 weeks to get the roots going down for the nutes which sits under each pant pot. Fill the reservoir up the connect them all, turn the valve on away we go.

Each pot is 15 litres and filled with Palm tree ash and guanokalong media mix.
So the tunnel will only home 9 plants.

Less is more if there all bushes come September /October (I hope ) .

Great looking plants!

I like the tunnnel. I could have settled for a couple like that.

Is this what your using?https://www.autopot.co.uk/
Kind words Chuck, it's similar to the system I'm using, same company but I'm using the 4 pot system, you can keep adding pots to the system, I settled on 6 so they all got plenty of space and loads of air movement.
Have a read up here buddy.

Looking good there Sim! You're off to a great start and they will serve you well.

Keep it green my friend!

P.S. I keep seeing these greenhouses, I want one!  Just 2 more years :shh:

Cheers Scott
i like the poly tunnels , leave the frame up over winter , clean the cover really well and store it away , good for 3 seasons usually. As its green and not clear like a greenhouse  plants dont get scorched and the really hold in heat and humidity.

Iv got all wood chippings on the floor and when its a real warm humid sticky night i soak the chippings and zip the door/opening down for the night, its like a sauna next day
