Cactus cuttings for the cost of shipping

Just a quick update to let folks know how things are progressing: I went at my plants with a sharp kitchen knife a few weeks ago as planned and ended up hacking off about 40 lbs of cactus chunks. All are responding well and forming a nice, clean callus. As soon as spring and its warmer cactus-shipping weather gets here (next week?), I will be boxing them up and sending them to whoever wants them.
So far I have OCD Chilehead and CheriLBW down for one chunk of each and SnF will be receiving one chunk of pachanoi. That still leaves approximately one metric shit ton of cactus chunks for anyone in the CONUS who is interested.
It looks like the weather might start cooperating next week so I'll pick up some boxes and packing peanuts in the coming days to get ready. Hopefully soon I'll be able to get my plants outdoors and take some pics. If you're interested, keep an eye on the cactus thread in "growing other".
I'll keep you all posted on the status of your cuttings right here. Soon spring will be in the air and cacti will be in the mail!

HM, I would like to give it a try.  Sounds like fun.

Great! My wife will be so happy to hear that "those stupid pieces of cacti" will soon be gone from the spare bedroom. I can give you one of each just like I'm sending to OCD and Cheri, if you want.
I'll post directions for rooting and overall care in the cacti thread when I mail them.

Hey, youz guys! Cactus cuttings are shipping this week. Here's a list of some of the things you'll need:

-Dru (getting three pachanois) will need three ~1 gallon pots
-bp, Cheri and OCD will need one ~two gallon pot (macrogonus), one ~1 gallon pot (pachanoi) and one (or two) ~6" pot(s) (Somebody is getting two bridgesii cuttings, but I can't remember who right now. )
-potting soil. The stuff you use for peppers will work great - with a few mods.
-If you use living or complete soil, cut nutrients to about 1/3 . (If you use inert soil, wait until late spring before feeding.)
-Add more perlite. 1 part perlite : 3 parts soil ought to do it.
-Get some garden lime (hydrated horticultural by Hi-Yield is what I use. It's available at just about every garden center I've been to. Otherwise Amazon. It's cheap and you'll be using it as long as you grow mountain cacti.) Add a few Tbsp per gallon of finished mix. I wouldn't recommend the the pelletized fast release stuff.

That should be it for now. Once your cuttings arrive, unwrap them and put them in a dry, shady spot. Any damage inflicted by the USPS will need a few weeks to dry and callus.

Arrived safe and sound, T. pachanoi already bit me while checking it over lol.

Thank you again!

You're welcome! Dru asked me some questions about his in a PM and I posted my reply in the cactus thread. That's where all my growing directions will be compiled. If you have any questions or want to show off pics, that's the place!

And in case anyone else is still interested, I still have a bunch of cactus cuttings to get rid of. Let me know if you want to get in on this!

Any macrogonus or bridg left ? ?

I have a ton of seedlings going,  they make great house plants, even in the north as they are very hardy

I'm sorry to say I just potted up the remaining cuttings yesterday so I could give them to a friend. With any luck I may have a few to part with around this time next year though. If I do, I'll revive this thread so keep your eyes peeled!

Almost a yr later, updates

How's everyone cutting doing so far, if you received one.

I have a huge pile of cuttings to get rid of this year again. Not free this time, but pretty cheap - I'm charging less than folks on ebay. I'm going to start a new thread in the coming days so keep your eyes peeled here if you're interested!

I just wanted to "tag" you all to let you know I have a big pile of cuttings to get rid of again this year. They're not free this time, but my prices are a lot lower than what I saw on ebay.
