Heading to Trinidad, anything to score?

At the end of the month I am going to be spending a few days in Trinidad about an hour south of Port of Spain.

If I find chillis in the local markets, can I bring them home to the US?

 Any other advice?
You take your chances if found smuggling by Customs/TSA/APHIS.> Small Lots of Seed

While highly unlikely there is always the chance you'll be caught, here's one from CBP, Philly CBP Interrupts Plants, Seeds Smuggling Attempt, which has links for info to look at.

Edit: And I see others have taken the opposite viewpoint, I'd like to add, YMMV..... They won't be the ones sitting in a room off the terminal with a one way mirror and an armed CBP officer sitting on the opposite side of the desk.

I will not lie on a customs form just to grow a plant. No way, no how.

If I find something I might try the mailing seeds option.

The only other option to me is to harvest seeds and declare them.

I travel way too much to risk getting put on a list of some sort.

maybe better to ship half of what you find in two different place.
this way If he seizes them at one place you have a second chance

A few years ago I visited the USVI for a week's vacation. On the first day there I visited a produce stand to find local peppers. I deseeded them immediately so they would dry out before I went home. For the journey home, I dropped the seeds loose in a pocket in my backpack. Covered them with other items including a handkerchief. Figured if there were any questions I'd say I didn't know how long they'd been in there. Must have dropped out of a seed pack way back when. All went well until I used the handkerchief: immediate burning and sneezing, etc.

Pick up some calypso sauce! This is one of my favorite hot sauces. Not super hot but the taste is amazing!

Seeds get taken, big deal. Caught lying on customs form? Nothing I want a part of.

yeah, mail 'em to yourself sounds like the best way. I mean it's not heroin for crying out loud.
You could probably buy a few seed packs at the local nursery too.

make a trusted friend , then you'll have a contact for new stuff !  yep, i'd mail , and bring some back , Just be forward with them . I know my buddy brings seeds back from the Philippines , his wife brought back chocolate covered bananas , they were wrapped ti tinfoil , customs unwrapped and looked she told them what they were . They let her go through .
