It sucks to be a good cook!!

I had to cook instead of getting the garden planted, it's always something here. My niece and her hubby went crabbing and didn't have enough to feed 9 people so we had to add a sack of crawfish, of course we had all the sides too.
The weather was great today and it was a crab stew, boiled crabs and crawfish. This is how the poor people eat here.

Oh my, look a' dem bugs!!

My 16 year old girl had her first taste of those in Port Aransas last year. Couldn't get enough!

With the winter being so warm this year both the crab and crawfish season has been great. The crawfish prices hasn't been bad either, $50 a 35lb sack for the last few months but the price is going up as it always does for Good Friday and Easter. After Easter most of the crawfish farmers stop catching because the price will drop too low for them to make money and it'll be time to plant rice.

The Wildlife & Fisheries closed the commercial crabbing for a month because they were worried about catching too many, the recreational limit in Rockerfeller Wildlife Refuge is 12 dozen. A boat is nice but not required to catch a limit. You can drive and set lines baited with chicken parts and use a net to catch them. I've been there at day break and left at 9AM with 12 dozen many times, that's almost the rule if you catch the tide moving in the right direction.

The plants didn't make it in the ground today either, it sucks getting old. I woke up with a sore hip and was lazy till the afternoon. I did retill 9 90' rows in the garden, tomorrow I'll till a few more times to get the soil fluffy the way I like it, fertile and probably plant okra, PHP's and maybe set in some tomato plants. I'm gonna wait for the peppers another week just to be sure we won't have that random freeze but if the 10 day forecast looks good next week all the peppers go in dirt.
