Trippaul Threat (PdN x BMJ) Community Grow

This is a dedicated grow log for Tristen's awesome cross, which I
have been growing out since 2014.  I'll start with a bit of history and
some photos documenting what's happened so far.

In January of 2014, Tristen (Trippa) sent me a little care package of seeds.
In the package were two generations of a cross he had made, which he just
called 'Mystery Cross, F1' and 'Mystery Cross, F2'.

Here's Trippa's Mystery Cross seedlings in February of 2014:

Both generations showing the purple foliage characteristic since the beginning.

Up close look at Trippa's Mystery Crosses, F1 and F2.  Both culled to a single
plant after the photo taken, so I only had one plant of each generation:

Damn, everyone's plants are doing so well. I'm almost ashamed to post a picture of mine. The soil I used really did a number on me... I'm going to change the soil this week to see if I can still catch up a bit. Season's almost in the end stage already though....

Live and learn, Bernd... you are not growing in the most favorable conditions in the Low Countries! Although, I was
impressed by how things were growing in Groningen and Amsterdam.
I know indoor agriculture is a hot ticket there, right?

Dont worry about posting your pics, we have all been there, buddy!

Good luck tinkering with your grow towards the end of your season, Bernd.
Looking forward to seeing how things turn out...

Indeed, your plants look healthy and awesome! Very nice
pods forming there, as well, looking forward to seeing those
develop into mature, tasty pods !

Some plants podding furiously. One is F4-2 (my way of recording
which plant a pod comes from. The number refers to birth order).

Setting pods at a fast pace all over the plant:

Another F4, F4-3, has thrown these early pods. It is also
setting pods at a fast clip. Tristen's original goal was for
a robust purple plant with yellow pods. The F2 generation
was all yellow, following all red for F1. F3 was producing the
very pale pods, so I began selecting for them, and really did
not see any yellow pods thereafter. Until...

Could this be the one? I will be watching this plant closely at
pod ripening time!

What's a picture perfect pod supposed to look like anyway? I'm sure there is info in the thread, but I have a hard time locating stuff sometimes
i have been selecting for long, cylindrical, pale ivory to white, pointed pods.
An A+ pod would be 2 1/2 inches in length, so far, there has been little variation
in generations F3-F6. the yellow pod in the F4 generation part of my grow is the
first of it's kind I have seen in my limited grows (planted multiple Fx starting
with F4). I will definitely follow that one up if it turns out to produce a majority
of yellow pods.

Here are some images of the kind of pods I was selecting for:

White is nowhere near as big yet.
Awesome pics of awesome plants, Indigo. Nice branching on the 'purple'
specimen.
It will be great to see what those look like in September  :fireball:

Awesome, Scott! Nice plate o heat
Looks like you are heading the charge, my friend!

Did you get a chance to sample one? Let us know how it is for you.
Are there more pods on the plant? Interesting the container purple
has no pods sorry you had to pull the in-ground plants. Did you
get any pods from them?

Have a good vacay brother - did the plant handlers show up? I told them
theyd be working for free.

I've eaten them diced in a bacon and egg taco, they added a nice flair to it ;) I've also tried small pieces. I like the pepper! The ones in the plate are for a puree I want to make this weekend. I haven't been able to just eat a pepper like I used to after the med-nuking I got back in 2015. But I still enjoy hot peppers in food.

Yeah, I had to pull the plants. After close the 3 years straight of running the garden I have to catch up around here....like paint the house, and I hate to paint..LOL.
Vaycay in 2 weeks! Just a short one (9 days) And retirement in less than 1.5 years. I can't wait for that!

I intend on running the plants until our annual January freeze, and am looking forward to the fall pods. I read up on the Fox Farm products. A bit pricey, but I see they work really well for you!

Fox farms works for sure. Its just priced in the pot growers range. Ocean forest is probably the best commercial soil there is imo.

And Paul mine are looking how they should then! I will probably have a mini harvest in a few days

  - So, what did you think of the flavor?

- Hang in there, bro, you can do 18 months standing
on your head

- They are, Scottie, but a bag of Ocean Forest and one
of Happy Frog mixed together are more than enough
for starting the 40-50 plants I usually grow in a season,
For beverage cups and 2-liter containers for each plant.
Also throw in some compost and recycled potting mix
along with any leftover soil from year before, so the price
is not onerous. If I had a large operation twould be different.

Besides, being from S. Oregon I am partial to Humboldt
County

- Oh, yay! Take some pix, please , Andy!

Ha ha, youre not in Kansas anymore, Andy.
Oh wait, I guess you are !

Those look like beefy pods! They obviously
like the KS sun ... how long are they?
Nice pod production on that plant!

Did you pull those or did they get knocked off of
the plant? Ripe seeds inside?
