Trippaul Threat (PdN x BMJ) Community Grow

This is a dedicated grow log for Tristen's awesome cross, which I
have been growing out since 2014.  I'll start with a bit of history and
some photos documenting what's happened so far.

In January of 2014, Tristen (Trippa) sent me a little care package of seeds.
In the package were two generations of a cross he had made, which he just
called 'Mystery Cross, F1' and 'Mystery Cross, F2'.

Here's Trippa's Mystery Cross seedlings in February of 2014:

Both generations showing the purple foliage characteristic since the beginning.

Up close look at Trippa's Mystery Crosses, F1 and F2.  Both culled to a single
plant after the photo taken, so I only had one plant of each generation:

How hot are these things? Is a half of one going to destroy me? Lol
Nowhere near that category, yet. The late season pods
might be something else, but so far the early pods are
not above medium heat. Just start with a small piece to
get an idea before trying a larger one. Have fun!

Hi folks, I've finally got some good news to share. Both of my plants plants have started to pod up.

Sent from my SM-S327VL using Tapatalk
Those are totally awesome plants, Rick! Now that
they have set pods, the rate should really increase.
I hope they produce a bumper crop for you.

Fried this little sliver and through it on this bacon egg bread combo.

Chinense aroma. Quite a bit of heat. My tolerance is down right now. Glad I did t eat the whole thing lol
Good on ya, mate!  Probably hard to get a sense of the
flavor of the pod on the bacon and egg, but that's a great
use for that pepper!

Hope your pods are ripening nicely.

You know Paul, I believe I'd very much like to be onboard with next year's grow. No hurry though, I've barely got pods yet this year!
When the F7 seed is ready, I'll send some your way, Eric.

Good luck with those Aji Amarillo. I hope you get some
nice pods from them.

hi all. i stumbled upon this thread yesterday and read the entire thread from the beginning and its so cool how it has played out with seeds getting sent around the world for the following year`s grow. if this will be done again for next year`s grow i would love to try growing a few. good luck to everybody who has plants growing now.

Glad you have enjoyed this group effort, Kevin.
As for next years grow season, stay tuned and
when seeds are available speak up. Hopefully,
there will be an abundance among the group of
growers. All that is asked in return is updates
now and then about the plants of the cross you grow.
The purpose of the project is to see if the phenotype
stays consistent across a much larger grow than one
person can carry out. This year, we are growing F6
(I do have a few F4 growing), so next year would be
the F7, sort of a marker year, I gather.

A few pics from the PNW...

This F4 is really bushing out at the bottom. Overwinter, anyone?

F6W, LP AND F6W-2 got some shade cloth today to help
combat sun in the 90s. F6P and F6W-1 are not so lucky.
I will say these are sun loving plants, however:

That about does it from this corner of the PNW. I hope everyone
is having a superb grow, and that the vegetative and pod phenotypes
continue to be true to past experience. Your pictures really help us to
track the progress of Tristens cross!

It certainly has a nice flavor, without the kill-ya heat. And I've shared a few pods.
Everyone comments about what a nice pepper it is, flavor wise ;)
Yes, indeed, Tristen has produced a nice pepper hybrid. If past
experience holds true, the Fall peppers will be paler and hotter
than their early season counterparts.
Did you notice any change of flavor as the colors changed?

I didn't taste much difference between the light purple
pod I ate and the yellow one.  The yellow, being more ripe,
tasted more mature, I guess.  Am looking forward to tasting
some of the later season ivory/white pods.

Speaking of taste testing, all the early pods have
softened, so I picked them. All these are from the
F6 plants:

Good demonstration of the range of colors
you might see on the early pods.
The pods in the lower right corner are for me to
taste test. Purple/White vs. Yellow/Ivory
The rest go to our Neighbors.
Bwahaahaahaaaahaaaaaaa.

Paul I've been reading this Post from day one and its absolutely brilliant what you Guy's have done!outstanding .if there is any spare F7 seeds going spare at the end of the season I would love to grow them and compare with everyone else's as I'm in Scotland and it would be quite a challnge in my climate I have just bought a greenhouse so that should give me a head start next season eagerly awaiting you're reply

Absolutely, Terry. I'm glad you are enjoying everyone's efforts.
This really is a group project.

I should have seeds available for a few more folk for next season's grow.
Just stay tuned to this thread, and PM me your addy at some point.

Congrats on your acquisition of a greenhouse! Good luck with that.

It will be interesting to see a Scottish take on Tristen's experiment.
I suspect gardening in general is not easy as close to the Northern
latitudes as you are in Scotland.

I recently glued numerous flowers in my garden for isolation and, of course, it rained. But I managed to keep a few sealed and one of them was the white version of this variety...so I'll have isolated seeds for next season. But here are a couple pics.
