Trippaul Threat (PdN x BMJ) Community Grow

This is a dedicated grow log for Tristen's awesome cross, which I
have been growing out since 2014.  I'll start with a bit of history and
some photos documenting what's happened so far.

In January of 2014, Tristen (Trippa) sent me a little care package of seeds.
In the package were two generations of a cross he had made, which he just
called 'Mystery Cross, F1' and 'Mystery Cross, F2'.

Here's Trippa's Mystery Cross seedlings in February of 2014:

_DSC1215a_zps824b6b30.jpg

Both generations showing the purple foliage characteristic since the beginning.

Up close look at Trippa's Mystery Crosses, F1 and F2.  Both culled to a single
plant after the photo taken, so I only had one plant of each generation:

Thanks for the great updates, Andy. That purple looks
beefy, and awesome jungle you have going there, As
well. Great harvest, my friend...

Dont be scared, Andy, just eat a little of the tip of a pod to get
an idea of the taste Eat a sliver with a little placenta
to get a handle on the heat. Good luck, buddy!

Some great picture ops as the plants get closer to a little harvest:

Great stuff, everyone! And very consistent pod shape throughout.
Here are some purples.

I do have an isolated pod on each plant, if you want any pure F7 seeds back, Paul...or anybody else for that matter.

You know I'm down for the pure f7s! Here's mine.. They started out purple, do the whites start out white, or do they both start purple? As I see your purples have a whitish tinge.. Still haven't figured out which pheno mine are but I'm guessing purple?

Great looking pods, Andy!  Any idea about length? I'm guessing 2" - 21/2"

I will be good for F7 seeds, and F4, for that matter, as they are the only plants
I'm growing this season. The F4 and F6 are at opposite ends of the yard, so
hopefully they are reasonably isolated  Thanks for the offer, Andy. Feel free
to spread them around as you see fit.

Good question, Tristan. They both start out dark purple, then ripen
through shades of purple, green and yellow to the final ivory color,
which in the case of the purple variety has lots of purple shading. I
am not sure if the 'purple' variety are not just slow to ripen. Maybe
they would turn white with a longer grow season.

In the long run, there are not a lot of differences 'tween them.

Thanks for the great pictures, really beautiful pods.

I could wait no longer I pulled in the first harvest of the
season and got about a pound of pods off of two F4 plants.
Still lots more to go.

F4-3, 235 grams:

F4-2, 247 grams:

F4-3 pods. The decent pods are predominantly blunt, two-inch specimens.
These should make good seed pods, I think. There are a few larger ones
still on the plant:

F4-2 pods. These range from 2 to 2-1/2 inches in length. In general, not
Quite so stubby looking:

Pods are looking good all around the grow, pretty consistent results for
the shape and size. Keep those cards and letters coming in, folks!

I have not harvested even one of these yet. I'm waiting and waiting and they don't seem to be going all the way to ivory/cream.
is this just a purple tan that is permanent?

Looking good folks!

Matt, they get Ivory colored, at least mine did. I pulled them at the first sign of them getting soft.

Enjoy them ;)

Woah, Matt, those are beautiful pods, every one! You have the magic touch,
my friend! I love the color changes on Tristens cross - those look like
candy

Excellent advice from a master!

You might remember the F6W-LP from the 2017 season's last pod...A bit scraggly
due to over-crowding for 6 months. This photo taken last week of June:

This photo was taken two days ago. The original branches
have pods ripe or turning ripe:

Some nice, ivory pods, 2 1/8 to 2 3/8 inches in length.
Nice and beefy:

Maybe a little rain on the way, so picked the pods that were ripe, all from
the F4 plants. I hope there is enough nice weather left to ripen up the hundreds
of purple pods still on the seven plants I have in the grow. We have harvested pods
well into October here when the Fall is nice, as in the last few years. Egads! the thought
of bags of purple pods at the end of the season is hard to swallow. I am seriously considering
starting some plants indoors in November so they will have a full 10-month grow season. Perhaps
starting seven in the Aerogarden just for fun.

Todays haul:
3DEF456D-066A-4A2D-A20F-937D3C95F753.jpeg

F4-1- 87 gr. F4-2 - 154 gr. F4-3 - 116 gr.

Seed pods from this round; I'm very happy with the general consistency
across the three F4 plants.

F4-1. Not a lot of pods, but a good selection of pods over 2" (5cm)
in length. Lots of Bonda genes coming through in those beefy pods,
I think!

4414BA9B-C49F-4586-9908-F1CEF9836DA7.jpeg

F4-2. This plant has turned out to be a real producer. Will definitely carry
this line forward. Pods trend toward more elongated:

BF676EBE-1ADF-4CAC-8BE3-E99BD4C182A8.jpeg

F4-3. Lots of 2"beefy pods in this round. I only kept three for seed:

I hope everyone finds some awesome pods for seed - grow the F7 next season!
Tristen needs to decide how to distribute the F7 beyond the present group. There
are already a couple of folk interested who post here, so I will cover them.

Let's see some great pod porn, THPers!

Good job Paul! Looking to definitely get my hands on some f7 seeds from a producer plant! I know what ya mean with these plants.. Sometimes ya just have some gene lines that are a powerhouse for producing pods!

Beautiful pods PaulG! it looks like those plants are producing very well.  .
Thanks, Kevin...
Same for you, my friend. Send me your addy,
I will send you seeds.

Well done Paul!

Just 2 or 3 weeks left and I'm into the best time of the year here. The gals are still in the running ;)
Thanks, buddy...
Looking forward to seeing those bushel baskets of pods, Scott!

BTW, in case any other PNWers are reading this, the NWChiliFest at
Kanaskat-Palmer State Park in Washington is on for Sep. 14,15, 16.
It's great fun. I have a yurt reserved, if anyone wants to come and
needs a place to hang. Great foods. Lots of Chili talk and Samples.

De-seeded all the seed pods I have shown so far.
They are all 2 in. or over and should produce awesome
plants. Most were F4 pods, but there were a handful of
F6 pods as well. Will show pictures of the seeds when
they are dried.

Here are the de-seeded pods - 190 grams:

The non-selected pods -730grams - will go to friends and the NWChiliFest
Sep. 15. Camping and fun the 14th-16th. Come on down, you all!

The heat has definitely cranked up a notch. The pods have a slick, oily
placenta and lining, and had me sneezing a couple of times. Wear gloves!
7069ACAB-2521-4516-9B7C-C156CC390CEE.jpeg

P.S. de-seeded pods will be used for powder. More sneezing.

Right on, Adam, nice beefy pods.

The F6 seems to be trending to more of a yellow ivory than
white this season in my grow.  The purples haven't started
ripening yet, so will have to see what happens there.  Did
you cut open the pods to see if the seeds are ripe?  How
about a taste test?

Keep up the good work, brother!
