Trippaul Threat (PdN x BMJ) Community Grow

This is a dedicated grow log for Tristen's awesome cross, which I
have been growing out since 2014.  I'll start with a bit of history and
some photos documenting what's happened so far.
 
In January of 2014, Tristen (Trippa) sent me a little care package of seeds.
In the package were two generations of a cross he had made, which he just 
called 'Mystery Cross, F1' and 'Mystery Cross, F2'.  
 
Here's Trippa's Mystery Cross seedlings in February of 2014:

Both generations showing the purple foliage characteristic since the beginning.
 
Up close look at Trippa's Mystery Crosses, F1 and F2.  Both culled to a single
plant after the photo taken, so I only had one plant of each generation:

Yes. the concept of hard germination requires a certain
amount of maturity  :D

Okay, back to reality

A few F7 and F5 starts. I will probably keep four
of the F7 and two of the F5 and give the others,
or any more starts of them to my neighbor. These
will all be isolated with netting.

My germination test on the F6 seeds is dismal,
both white phenotype and violet phenotype.
I don't know if it's me or if something is wrong
with the seeds.  I can't imagine they are not viable
since the white pods were totally white when harvested,
and a bit soft. 
 
I would suggest giving yourself lots of time, and
try to start a lot of seeds in order to get some plants.
My germination times have ranged up to 17-18 days
for the ones that popped, and then the percentages
really are poor.
 
I'm very concerned for the F7 grow this season. Dang.
 
I saved seeds put of a globe shaped pod, and maybe some out of the first pods I picked that weren't that ripe. I will try some of those too.

Excellent, my friend! Cant wait to see how they
do for you. Mine are still in the germinators with
no real progress

Rummaging around in my seed boxes, I discovered
these original 2013 F1 of Tristens original cross. I am
going to give these a go this season since the seeds
arent going to improve with age:

I am going to have to keep my fingers crossed with
these. Really hoping for success.

Right now am carrying forward four F7 and two F5.
Will post a pic later.
 
Are these Seeds from an F1 plant, or are they the actual F1 seeds?
 
Not sure if people use the F terms the same way.

As I understand it, this are the first of generation pods
from his original cross, so the first generation of pods,
red color. The seeds from these pods would produce
the second generation yellow pods.
 
So, this year's (2019) F1 pods should be red, next season's
(2020) F2 pods should be yellow.

It is just I get seeds from F2 plants, marked as F2, when they would be F3.  Had to ask.
 
Since these are truly F1 seeds, save as many seeds from the plants as you can.  You never know how things will mix up.  This is what fascinates me with plant breeding.

Heres the way I see it. The seeds that came from
the F6 plants are F6 seeds. Planted this season they
will produce the F7 plants/pods/seeds. Thus, the F7
grow.

So, the seeds marked F2 mentioned above will produce
F3 plants/pods/ seeds the following season.

I think that makes sense to me, but I could be
all wet
