Trippaul Threat (PdN x BMJ) Community Grow

This is a dedicated grow log for Tristen's awesome cross, which I
have been growing out since 2014.  I'll start with a bit of history and
some photos documenting what's happened so far.

In January of 2014, Tristen (Trippa) sent me a little care package of seeds.
In the package were two generations of a cross he had made, which he just
called 'Mystery Cross, F1' and 'Mystery Cross, F2'.

Here's Trippa's Mystery Cross seedlings in February of 2014:

Both generations showing the purple foliage characteristic since the beginning.

Up close look at Trippa's Mystery Crosses, F1 and F2.  Both culled to a single
plant after the photo taken, so I only had one plant of each generation:

The whites in my AeroGarden are doing too fine. 4 sprouts out of 5 seeds, though I thinned the week ones. Going to sprout a couple again on March.
  That's really great, Aravind!
You have the magic touch, my friend!

Keep 'em coming, can't wait to see how
they turn out for you.

I'm doing a side-by-side comparison of 4 of Paul's white seeds alongside 4 seeds I saved from the plant I grew this year.

It's a small sample size, and I didn't isolate, so there's always a chance mine are crossed.

It'll still be interesting to me to see how they do.
That will be a great experiment, Mitch. It will be very
interesting to see how they compare

My seed were not isolated, but open-pollinated, since I
grew only the F6 plants together. As far as I know, Adam
is the only one who isolated some of the seed last season.
I have one of his white variety going along with mine. His seed
went 2/2 in the rockwool.

This season, I'm going to isolate some seed pods
from the F7 grow.

Oh, page-topper   :woohoo:

So the radical I saw the other day is gone and a good portion of the f7 are brown looking. Maybe I hallucinated that sprout the other day. Or it died

Either one is bad, Andy ☠️

From my own saved seed. The white variety.

100% germination. Very lucky indeed!

Alright, Heefy. Way to go!
Can't wait to see those big and full of pods!

Nice pic of the seedlings!

All the F7 have forked and flowered.
First to hook and first to flower at 49 days:

(I'm using numbers just to keep track of my own plants,
so ignore them, they just have to do with hook order.)

Interesting data for lunatic F7 growers: 'Hook to Flower' time:
F71 - 11/23 - 1/11  49 days
F72 - 11/25 - 1/14  50 days
F73 - 11/26 - 1/14  49 days
F74 - 11/30 - 1/17  48 days

  two, seven weeks exactly, one a day more, one a day less.
I guess that makes the average 7 weeks exactly  :D  talk about
crazy consistent!

These plants are a random mix of seeds from three
pods, and then selected based on color, so I'd say
this consistency could speak to stability.  Thoughts?

I'd be interested in anyone else crazy enough    to gather
and share this data on the thread.

I'll be trimming flowers as much as possible until it's
just too tedious, then I'll have to figure out some isolation
techniques.

Have heard of seeds germinating here and there,
that is awesome! Thanks for posting your data/pics
on the thread and good luck to everyone heading
into the season!

Quick update. Two weeks since F7 transplanting

Anyone heard from Bhuter? I was gonna try and bum some of that isolated seed off of him lol. I saved seed last year besides the bulbous, but I don't k ow if it was off the white or violet. I guess I don't know which the bulbous is off of either. I will have some of the F5 and bulbous for sure though

Haven't seen him for a while.

I have a few of his white and purple.
Would send you some if you like, if
Adam isn't around. I also have some
more of my violet double pod seed
that was a good germinator. I also
have a few white that are stubborn
germinators.

Wasn't the bulbous a violet/purple
colored pod?

It was but it had white showing through, it may have just been picked early.

I just found an f7 white with a definite radical. And I messaged Bhuter a while back about which cinder seeds he would like to see grown out this year.

Here are the F7 White

Mine definitely don't look that purple. Probably has something to do with the grow light I'm using? My purple chili plants usually start turning purple when they get hit by direct sun light...
I am using T5HO. The plants are under a 4x4.

Looks like good percentage of germination on
the bulbous. Hope you get to grow a couple of
those out.

Thanks for the great update, Andy

This is as purple as mine get right now... except for the pink stems they look as green as all my other seedlings :D

Hey, Marc, I'm not seeing your pictures

Light intensity definitely makes a difference.
On mygrow table, the lower leaves aren't as
purple as the tops.  In the summer sun, the
plants look almost black, they are so dark

Really enjoying watching things getting going for this next season.  A little purple or a lot, they're great looking plants!  And the leaf color on that topped F7 looks super healthy.

I run T5HO's too and commonly pull purple on seedling stems, even when it's not "typical" for the variety.  Curious how close to the bulbs you keep your seedlings and plants - ?

None of the F7 have been topped, CD. This cross has a tendency
to branch out vigorously from the lower leaf nodes.

I have noticed that, too.

I suppose about four inches. I stick the
back of my hand at plant-top level to gauge
the heat. I probably could go closer, but not
all varieties seem to like that much light.

That's right.  It was your rocotos you topped recently. Hard to keep track with everything you have going on ATM!  I guess that's even more impressive that they're doing that without your intervention.

Thanks. That's about where I am, give or take based on the specifics and how the plant reacts.  The T5HO's are strong lights within their optimal range.  If I get much closer I'll start to get issues, especially as my current air circulation isn't at its best.
