fermenting New to Fermentation

Just started my first fermentation with jalapeños. I'm using a Brew Bucket with an airlock. The mash is jalapeños, garlic, scallions and a 2% brine.
It's been a week since I closed the bucket, checked to make sure everything was air tight and airlock was working properly. It has a heavy smell of garlic but smells fine. Is it ok to open up the bucket to check on it? Because I want to go aleast another couple weeks of fermenting.

Thanks, yeah it's a struggle to forget about it, as I'm sure y'all know, but I'm gonna let it ride a couple more weeks at least.As soon as I figure out how to put up pictures on here I'll post some of my setup.
