another Hp56 "death strain" question

I've been hearing about some seeds being available on the down low from people who were not supposed to have them. Is this possible? And if so would you pay $5 a seed for the novelty of having these before they are released from puckerbutt?

Depends, if I knew they were legit I might buy one or two seeds. If I could use them to turn up the heat (in sauce or powder) efficiently without ruining taste then they could be useful.

For example I could make a sauce with a milder chilli I like the taste of, then add a Hp56 to raise the heat.

I don't like reapers so can't use them. Haven't tried Primo yet though. But if the Hp56 has a strong horrible taste then I wouldn't consider it.

Seems like it would be hard to ever know if the seeds are legit or not. Fake Chocolate Bhutlah seeds were being offered for sale long before it was released. This could be a similar situation. Or they might be the real deal, being leaked by a Puckerbutt employee perhaps. No way to know I guess.

Personally, I wouldn't spend $5 each for some maybe real, maybe fake HP56 seeds. Given that a wide variety of exotic, face-melting superhots are readily available at much more reasonable prices, I guess the novelty of getting this particular one a bit early just wouldn't be worth the premium price to me. But then, I get more excited over flavorful, great-tasting peppers than I do over those that are merely brutally hot. If I start hearing great things about the flavor of the HP56, my interest would increase. But there's still no way I'm paying $5 per seed for it.

That's a good point. It would take months before you ever found out if they were real. And no one really knows how they taste. They might be horrible.

And just for the record, I don't know where to get them, but a friend of mine says he has a lead.

I have been told they tasted like crap but a lot of heat. I know who got seeds and grew them out, but I'm not in the group that was privy to the availability. I wouldn't trust unless they came directly from this person. Lots of us paid almost $3 each for the first jigsaw seeds, $5 isn't out of the question. I've paid $25 each for cycad seeds in the past, $5 for something that nobody else has? Slam dunk.

$5 is nothing for the publicity opportunities it would provide but, at the same time, seeds are of little use to me this time of year. If they haven't leaked across the UK by the end of the season, however, I have a lead I might follow up.

Yeah and the stuff that does get leaked in europe ends up being sold to the public.

That's why I'm waiting 'til last minute to snap up any seeds. If just anyone can buy them then the novelty is useless to me.

Remember, there were Chocolate Bhutlahs around long before the SM. There was the DM, Judy's, and one other whose initials I forget. But that's another thread unto itself, of which there are many!

I wonder how the flavour is on this, too. The Reaper doesn't taste very nice to me at all. But, I suppose that's not its purpose for some.

I really like the taste of the Reaper aside from its horrible sourness. It's the Scorpion that isn't to my liking, especially when yellow.
The flavour of the Death Strain obviously isn't its appeal but I'd still rather the tastiest than the hottest.
