Drip pans/saucers

Normally i only use them for really thirsty plants like cukes in containers. This year i have 12 in a drip system in buckets and i will have upto 6 more in Walmart bags. I also have a couple with only coco coir/perlite in the buckets.

What do you think about drip pans or saucers? Let them run off or use something to catch a inch or two of water? Keeping pots from drying out too much doesn't seem to be a issue until late July and August. Ive never used grow bags but my gut is telling me they would benefit more if the bottom stays wet? The bags will have a coco, perlite and compost mix to try to keep them somewhat lighter than the buckets.

I was thinking about a 1.5 bushel laundry basket to catch a little water and some support for the bags. Also to help move them around a little easier if needed.

I can't definitively say that I saw a "massive increase" in production, but I did get more than a few great harvests that year. Here's a few red Bhut plants, mid-October

So gonna have to give this a go next year.

Did you guys see a massive increase in production of pods?
I didn't see a massive increase, but I did find it much easier to manage a lot of little plants, and feeding and watering was definitely easier.
.
The pic I posted doesn't really reflect the scale of that particular grow. I had many more plants, but gave some away, or planted up others. For me, this was originally intended to be a starting method, but it ended up serving as a useful knowledge tool. I grew 8 plants in the space of 1 or 2, and while they didn't get as big, they were vigorous, produced well, and seemed to produce faster. And oddly, I had no major pest issues on the bottom watered "tub" plants. That's significant, because bugs at my place seem to have a network - like they call their friends when there's a new plant in town.

Looks good im sold. I will have to take a journey to poundland and hunt out some washing baskets. Its payday weekend and a bank holiday after all.

I caint wait to see the looks people would give me when i tell them im growing chillies in washig baskets. Think they will either commit me or call an intervention. Unfortunately you guys seem to already be too late to help though...

Check places like the Dollar Store, Sometimes they have stuff like this really cheap. Even Aldi has stuff. I found tomato cages at our Aldi for $1.79. The same cage at Lowes was $2.50.
