Alien Tomato :)

One of the last tomato's I got from an Organic Hothouse gave me a start, at first I thought it was worms then looking closer it was the seeds sprouting inside, so Im gonna put the whole guy in the ground and see what happens :)

I can't see the first few pictures for some reason, the fruit in the last set of pictures it looks like the seed is germinating inside ripe fruit.  This is probably not a trait you want to keep and breed into your stock.  When seeds germinate in ripe fruit it is known as 'vivipary', it is not overly uncommon in tomatoes and pops up from time to time in apples and a few other things.  I believe it normally happens when one of the hormones that keeps a seed dormant runs low, in tomatoes this is usually abscisic acid.

Thanks!
Reading the description of vivipary sounds just like the Movie Alien lol I grew this for curiosity so see what happens.
I replaced the origonal pics in post #11

Looks like the Deer got a nibble of him too.

It is difficult to tell from a picture, but most of those strawberry pictures look a bit more more like phyllody than vivipary.  I have had strawberries exhibit phyllody before.  They are still edible, but not overly nice.
