Just how much difference can one get out of growing conditions? I've tasted both peppers and found a significant heat difference, myself, though I prefer the Brainstrain for flavour.

They have plugs available right now but won't have seeds until the end of the season. Any possibility they made clones for sale of an unstable hybrid? Tom

For flavor, growing conditions can make a huge difference.  My wife can tell the difference between a tomato grown in the soil and in a container.  I cant, but I have tested her and she didnt make it up.  Same variety too.  I gotta figure heat is effected in the same way, but I dont know what lends itself to making more heat.

I think it was Nigel from Hippie Seed who said that run off from their worm farm helps up the SHU.  Now canabis growers swear that resin production is encouraged by torturing the poor plant, starving it of water, shoving tooth picks in the stem, ,and so on.  But I do not know that pepper plants respond in the same way.  I also think some of the canabis growers are as nutty as I am.  I swear by aged duck poop.

Heck, if it was Nigel (bad memory here) and we ever talk I am going to propose a fun / silly competition: Worm Juice vs. Duck Poop.  Kind of want to return some of the fun to the whole which is hottest thing.  So much mean spirit now that there is money in who ever is the hottest.
 
 
What we need is an independent organisation dedicated to chilli peppers, and for them to come up with a comprehensive ranking of chillies by heat. Obviously it would change around a lot, and the whole thing will never happen, but that's my utopia anyway.

AJ few years ago was the first time i grew Brandywine red Heirloom mater and I guess the rain that year helped the flavor ,to save my life I can not get the juicy sweet flavor I had the first year my guess i picked it after a long rain but not sure because it was sweet and flovorful??

The New Mexico University has the Chilli Pepper Institute.  I think the last time they did side by side tests the Moruga Scorpion came out on top.  As I recall, the study was funded by industry.  Maybe what we really need is that they could get enough funding to do a once a year thing?

I think the media is inclined to make anything more sensational.  But there is something else.  I swear you could ask a reporter to repeat a sentence back to you and they would never get it right.  It is the weirdest damn thing.

I wouldn't call BS so quick.  Have now seen so many different looking photos that I gotta figure the thing is unstable.  Reading the Reddit page, the seed for the plant he grew were said to be 'experimental'.  Gotta figure that means probably unstable.  I gotta figure that if they gave away early seeds, we are going to see a plethora of shapes that will go by the same name.

Which of course brings us to back if Guinness will accept it as a new pepper.  I think they insist on stability because if it is not stable, is it really a type of pepper?

This has come up before. Nobody seems to be able to find a reliable source to verify that Guinness requires F8. Do you have one?

I don't know what happened. Someone asked him and he said he was growing them and had 5 peppers that he had promised to people. It was up for a couple days and now he seems to be gone. I'm not sure how Reddit works.
 
On the Guinness thing.  Have felt it is goofy for much time.  For biggest water melon, pumpkin, or anything else I can think of from the garden they go with the biggest and who grew it.  Most often this is without any mention of the variety.  For hottest pepper, it is the variety that seems to be the focus.  That almost requires some sort of rule for what is a variety.

Thing is, what is a variety?  How different does it have to be?  The last hot pepper of note that I can think of to get the Plant Variety Protection Act protection was Red Sav.  That was some time ago.  But don't you worry, I am absolutely sure Burpy and other huge commercial operations are working on something just in case the tremendous trend of interest in hot peppers continues.
