Guinness: Biggest vs. Hottest ?

Reading article on Dragon's Breath pepper got me to thinking.  One of the articles says his peppers got that hot because of the plant food he was using.  So I start wondering, why is it that Guinness chooses to say the hottest pepper in the world is a variety rather than focus on the grower?

With Water Melon, the biggest doesn't even say what type of water melon it is.

With tomato, the heaviest doesn't say what type of tomato it is.

The heaviest chili pepper in the world doesn't mention the variety.

But when it comes to the hottest pepper, the focus is on the variety.  Wouldnt you think the same would be true of other vegetables so a person who wants to grow a huge what ever could look up what variety holds the title?

You have a point. But there is so much variation in pods, and no real accurate way of testing the heat of a single pod, that if they did do it by pod the record holder would change daily. So o guess they have to do it as hottest variety, so there is some uniformity. Also note that they record the average for Carolina Reaper, not the highest ever recorded.

Exactly.  You dont see the tomato or watermelon variety with the highest average weight or size.  Just kind of pondering cause my wife has us entered in the fair.  All the other produce in Guinness seems to be like traditional state fairs, where the grower is the focus.  When it comes to the hottest pepper, the variety seems the focus.

Maybe it it is because the testing is so much more involved than just throwing it on a scale.  Still, I have this image in my mind of judges chugging milk and passing out.  Now wouldnt that be much funner to see?
