Most Overrated Spicy Products?

The Sriracha I last made was one of the best tasting that Ive had, funny though it did taste like fresh ketchup, just peppers and garlic. Anything commercial wont stack up to Artisan type companies in my opinion.

Yeah well commercial doesn't stack next to home made. I make sriracha too, I use sweet cherry peppers, reapers, and ghosts. Plus a good bit of garlic,

The bottle of ''hot sauce'' you see at your typical mexican restaurant here in the USA. It has a picture of a mariachi guy on it. Tastes like taco sauce in high school.

I'll tell you what's not over-rated - Nando's Sauces! Dunno If it exists outside of Australia, but Nando's rocks! No so much heat-wise as flavour-wise, but some of them do put a kick in!

The milder ones are ok but the hotter they get the worse they taste, IMO. The extra extra hot is not pleasant.

Topatio! The stuff is pretty good, but if i'm at a mexican place I'll reach for El Yucateco first

Personally I really like garlic. I like sriracha for a few things. Not particularly hot, but the taste isn't bad. A tiny bit sweeter then I prefer though.
I love Sriracha in hard boiled eggs. Yes, "in" eggs. I cut a hard boiled egg in half, take the yolk out, then fill the egg white "bowl" with Stiracha. Almost like you'd make tequila shooters out of 'peños

I like Cholula lol.
I especially like their Chipotle sauce. Tabasco's chipotle too. Don't judge me ;)

I remember liking the Chipotle one haven't had in awhile. Tabasco was really smart to introduce new flavors and not offer a "new and improved" Tabasco. I'm sure they took lessons from Coke. ;)

Chipotle Tabasco is pretty decent but I prefer their green (pure, fermented Jalapeño flavour with vinegar). Their absolute best, however, is their Raspberry Chipotle, which is just their Chipotle with added fruit but man does it make a difference.
Unfortunately I've only seen it sold in germany.

Well, if we're going down that route then there's always Hot Plot Chilli Co's T.N.T. that I reviewed a while back but I feel like delicious cherry liqeuer barbecue sauce is a little off the intended topic of things that are overrated :p.
But yes, fruit and chipotle works far better than I would have initially guessed but probably not so well with green chipotle.

Speaking of ketchup and sriracha? This shit was terrible!! Strange cause I like ketchup and I like sriracha, but Heinz's mix is awful.

HogLeg....PE+Heinz=WIN!!!

But then again, I think Sriracha is overrated........

Tabasco is the First and Original...been around forEVER and is a classic taste.  If you like it, it hasn't changed.
Gotta give props to both McIlhenny's and Tran for their entrepreneurship.  Both are the gateway sauces to the rest of the Hot Sauce World.  As are Tapatio, Valentino, La Victoria....

Thanks to their work, we now have a plethora of tasty, not-to-vinegary, fresh ingredients hot sauce companies to forever keep our meals from being bland.

But even though I appreciate the foundation they set, I still like the newer, fresher sauces.

but... isn't it OK if the info posted is of benefit to the other poster????

OK, That is totally NOT a high-jack!  If it is...It's Pookie's fault!
