What grows in the blistering Fla heat?

I roasted a couple of those purple(ish) brown skin Korean sweet taters with the cream colored flesh last nite. About an hour at 425F until the skins got a little crispy.

DELICIOUS even plain!!!!! The flesh had the most fantastic mouth feel. Almost creamy like a very stiff pudding or custard. I dont like the typical sweet potatoes you get at most grocery stores but these are killer.

I have had very good luck with datils and habaneros. I'm trying to expand my horizons this season ducking and dodging between hurricane and freezes.

So...which pepper plants are good to grow in FL - that can survive the brutal Sun and heat?

I have an old fig tree, whenever the fruit starts to get ripe the starlings have party time!

A flock of starlings is called a murmuration. [emoji4]

How do you “discourage “ the starlings from wiping out your figs?

Honestly I haven't tried to discourage it since I'm not crazy about figs.. even have gopher turtles getting in on the figgy action.

I'm exploring some Caribbean varieties. Most of these seem to end up being a chinense. They seem to be able to handle the climate and humidity better.

Many of the annuums I've tried struggle with the high humidity.

Every pepper I've tried has trouble if I try to give it maximum sun. I started off with potted peppers so I could find the spots in my yard that work best. Many of my pepper plants seemed to thrive with considerable shade, especially during the hot part of the summer.

Cool. Up here we have turtles that look similar to your friend, but they’ll take your finger off. Snapping turtles, you probably have them also. Good thing yours is a herbivore.

Actually got bit by one of those snapping turtles when I was a kid. The neighbors brought one home from the Everglades to make soup. Luckily it let go after a few panicked moments!

My MOA yellows dropped tons of flowers last year in the heat. The 7Pot yellow wasn't bothered by it at all and neither were the orange habs from the year before. So not all hab types will be super tolerant of the high temps.

Ive got some Aleppo seeds that should be arriving today. They are supposed to absolutely love the heat.

Baked a Okinawan purple today. Our market is nearly $2/lb for these suckers and the Korean sweet potatoes with the cream flesh are only 99cents/lb. These are delicious but frankly i liked the other one just as much and its more chestnut like flavor.

REALLY worth growing though if you can. The nutrition profile on these is outstanding for most people.

Something else that loves the Florida heat... Hornworms. I think I picked a hundred baby worms off my cherry tomato plant this afternoon. Those things are of the devil!

I'm scared to even say something in case I jinx them but I have never seen hornworms on any pepper plants. Only tomatoes. Is it pretty common to get them on peppers?
