Rookie Mistake?

My Carolina Reaper is producing a lot of green pods but they don't all look the same.  It is setting on a raised patio where it is windy all the time.  It just hit me that I had about 4 bell peppers on this same table.  What are the chances I am getting some cross pollination since the pods on the Reaper look different?

Thats weird. Where did you get your seed? Looks like the parent plant of your seeds was cross pollinated. Cool looking pods though
Unfortunately, I did not start the plant from seed.  I purchased the transplant from Cross Country Nurseries (ChilePlants.Com) in Stockton New Jersey and yes it does look like the parent was crossed with something else.  What a waste of time!  I will never purchase transplants again and start everything from seed.  Some of the pods should be true reapers if they look like them shouldn't they providing all were not cross pollinated?

So much for saving the seed from these plants for next year.

If the parent plant was cross pollinated, then the entire plant has the genes from what it was crossed with. You may have some peppers that look mostly reaper but they still contain the genes. That one pepper almost looks like an anaheim. Lol who knows, you may have the worlds hottest anaheim pepper. Dont be too discouraged. I think crosses are awesome. You never know what you're gonna get. Ride it out, i bet they're gonna be some badass pods.

X2. Give the pods a chance. If you like it, keep some seeds for next season. No sense in giving up on a good pod just because its not what you thought it was. I have several plants this year that I have no idea what they are. I got one plant from Wal Mart marked "Red Bhut Jolokia" that is spitting out hab-like pods with a cool stinger tail. Certainly not Bhuts but they will definitely be on the list for next year.

I will definitely keep them going to see what shape they take.  They are light green now so how long will they take to fully mature and turn red?

Hard to say. Some ripen faster than others.

Thats all part of the thrill. You find yourself checking on them mutiple times a day checking for ripening. Lol ride the wave my friend. Its part of what makes this hobby so much fun!
