Charlesquik's Growing 2017 2.0

Time for a new glog as photobucket destroyed all the pictures links.

I uploaded all my photos to imgur

Ill try my best to remake it

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I started planting when the snow was starting to melt around February 19th.

The main goal this year is to make the prototype of an automated greenhouse. We will then make a big greenhouse on the family woodlot that need zero human intervention.

Also we are going to use automation for almost everything.

I also bought a nice Meizhi 450watt full spectrum light. It helped a lot with the slow growing I had from previous year.

We tried to make a bigger greenhouse but we feared a neighbor complaint (We live in the city so there are strict rules) so we stayed with previous year size.

We did a rock bottom to help drainage

Then we used a mix of  black dirt
shrimp compost
manure
and concentrated shrimp powder

This year I don't have many peppers per plants. I had many flowers but bees wouldn't enter my greenhouse. Do you guys use q-tip?

Your harvests are picking up speed, Charles; way to go!

Have never used a q-tip - sometimes I just use my finger
to pollinate in the greenhouse, but not really very often - just
sort of way to occupy a few minutes  of time once in a while
in the early Spring.

Keep up the good work, buddy!

Reaper's shot!

These are kind of the last peppers of the season. Some peppers are re-flowering, but its too late!

I have like 5-6 starfish coming. Why so late season? I don't really know

Next week I will trim 4 plants for overwintering  and post the picture here.

Im doing a winter experiment to see if pepper can survive -40 celcius winter in a greenhouse without any help

Left row : Left some foliage

Right row : removed all foliage

Cool experiment. Please remember to share the results. Just curious why you are over-wentering the 2 plants which didn't produce at all?

Well they didn't produce but they grew some flowers and they were healthy.

The flowers just didn't get pollinated because the greenhouse is not a good place for bees.

I had no time for q-tip because I live 30 minutes away  from my peppers and I have work and a girlfriend and well I got no time haha...
