breeding Noob trying to cross-pollinate...

Hey guys! I recently tried to cross pollinate some of my peppers. I gathered pollen from a jalapeno plant, cut open a closed black pearl flower pod and dipped the membrane into the pollen. I tried with 2 different black pearl pods and they both fell off the plant and died...

Was I maybe too rough? Ive also seen methods online that include sealing the pod in a plastic bag until the pepper starts growing...

Hmmm... does anyone have any suggestions on how to improve my cross pollination attempts? Or can you let me know what method works best for you?

Thank you kindly everyone:>

Don't be discouraged, this is normal. I generally have far more failures than successes when cross-pollinating flowers. Heck, sometimes the plants will even drop a bunch of their own self-pollinated flowers for whatever reason. Just keep trying, and maybe dust more than just two flowers this time. The more flowers you dust, the better your odds that at least one will take, after all. Follow the guide Edmick posted and you should be golden. Jalapenos and Black Pearl are both the same species, Capsicum Annuum, so I would expect them to cross relatively easily. Just be persistent with it, and you should have a good chance to succeed.

Haha i wish but thank you. Its been a tough year for bugs. Constant battle. The peppers and tomatoes are doing good though and my zucchinis are bouncing back from a nasty spider mite infestation. First time ive had spider mites in over 10 years. Anyways, welcome! You'll learn alot from everyone here!
