Have purchased many a hot sauce by many an artisan here.  Have seen how the folk who make sauces interact on THP and it is very friendly.  Lucky Dog and Salsa Lady are often in the same thread complimenting each others comments.  Have bought from both of them, so obviously have visited their web sites.  Their sites are great for me because I was there looking specifically for their products.  Thing is, not so great for a casual hot sauce shopper because being one brand only the sites are limited in what they make available.

So am curious to know if anyone has ever tried to create a single online store which offers artisan sauces from multiple vendors?  Not a standard resale site.  That would involve lots of money to purchase stock, rotate stock, store stock and so on.  A person would need to be registered as a food something or another just for storing the product.  I was thinking more like drop shipping.

Order comes into the central store, then goes out to the various artisans to fill.  No clue how the money would work.  Thinking that part would not be automated because it would be a royal pain in the rear, but what ever system the artisan would get paid before they ship.  So everyone would be happy.

Best example I can think of is how Amazon offers products that are shipped by different people.

Thoughts?  How could this work?

It's called amazon. ;) Try shopping on there Lucky is on there and others. And no one wants to try to compete w/them. Except wal-mart, where, it may be possible to also get listed, and they have a similar model now for online. Hot sauce only model, too niche.

Also shops like Heat. https://heathotsauce.com/

Amazon search function sucks, though. You search for two words, you get things with either. Not a great place to find anything new IMO.

there are some hot sauce shops that carry many of the most popular brands and can combine shipping.  HEAT Hot Sauce Shop is one.  I'm not sure how LDHS is shipping with Amazon, I think i heard somewhere that someone buys his sauce and sells it on Amazon.  I could be wrong   I like buying from places like HEAT where I can pick and choose the sauces from several different makers and consolidate shipping.

I don't know how a central clearing house would work cost effectively, as each individual bottle costs $4-6 shipping each, which puts the price for a $7 bottle of sauce at $11+....for each bottle.  The sauce shops do stock inventory, but again, they can combine for shiping....

Or...pay $14.95 for a bottle of LDHS-

It is whoever is selling and fulfilling it. Amazon is a marketplace. Not only amazon sells and fulfills, but they do fulfill most goods from various hubs (main in Kentucky, and many metropolitan). You can find one item that has multiple sellers, new and used (well not hot sauce :P).

Yea, I think Greenwood are the people who buy LDHS and resell it on Amazon, they are fulfilled by seller.  All Pure Evils were Fulfilled by Seller.

We joined Amazon Prime because of the shipping.  I can not believe the price of some of the household items.  Lower than any local store offers and with free shipping, wow.  Just the other day, realized Walmart online sells some products at about half the producer / manufacturer does.  Free pick up at store.  And then the weirdest.  On ebay bought some first aid supplies.  It got here and wife asked what I ordered from Amazon.  Amazon is now fulfilling for individuals on Ebay.

Ye, I am thinking the idea of drop shipping is done too well by the big boys for anyone to really consider it.

On the other hand, maybe a refinement of what Amazon offers making it easier to find?

On the seller's side of Amazon Prime, I cannot list the Pure Evil as a Prime item since I cannot guarantee 1 or 2-day delivery.  It could be if the PE was fulfilleed by Amz.  But I've been reluctant to go that route as I have no control over how the tins would ship.  One box I got from Amz had packets of wasabi powder and a bag of septic tank treatment chemicals just loose in the box.  Not happy about that one!!!

As a buyer, the Prime Pantry items seem like pretty good deals.  I had to laugh when filling up the box how they say "your box is 70% full, add more items!"   OK, another pack of toilet paper should do the trick~

Salsalady, you list with Amazon?  Not ready yet, but in the future could I PM you and bug the hell out of you about how to do it?  I can manage Ebay listings, but Amazon seems like a frigging mystery.

OK- back on the laptop, where typing is soooo much easier!

When listing with Amz, I had to have UPC/Bar Codes for each item.  When people ar re-selling items, the items probably already have bar codes on them, the reseller can list that code and be done.  I purchased a lot of 10 codes from GS1, and have used ~6 codes for salsa, hot sauces and the pure evils.  Amz is pretty persnickety about having all those things and I don't know if you can list an item without a bar code.

Thinking of you trying to sell boxes of fresh pods on Amz....I don't know how that would work.  You make your initial listing and post the quantity available.  The listing is "a box of random pods" and the quantity available right now is...5...0...10...8...2...0...0..20...

With ebay, you post a listing and it's up for 7 days...done... with Amz, you really have to be on your toes.  I suppose you could do short time listings, but then you may get negative seller performance ratings for being 'out of stock' when you have no boxes to sell.

Another thing I don't know about is- peppers are a fresh food item, and the regs are different for that. I have not looked at the Amz Fresh grocery store stuff, but I haven't seen any fresh produce for sale through Amz, only packaged shelf stable products.  Maybe in the cities where they have same day AmzFresh deliveries, you can get dairy and produce, ???? I dunno?  never looked into it.

If you find out you can sell fresh peppers on amz, I'm happy to help you wade through getting an account and listing on amz.

Thinking preppers more than peppers.  I have a small machine shop & a good imagination.  First product would likely be a trip wire that sets off a glow stick.  Goofy things like that.  Cheap and easy to make but little competition.

AH!  Not fresh peppers!

Well, if these are one-off items, I don't know how Amz would list them as I had to have bar codes.  But mine is in the food category.  They have custom jewelry categories and things like that, which I think would be difficult to manage if every piece would have to have a bar code.

Naw, not one off. Here is an example of someone already doing it, but differently.  I figure make something better and cheaper.  Lots of preppers out there.
