First BBQ

Been a very long time since Ive done this so christening my new fire pit went realy well.
Still want to do a stucco type layer on the outside so the bricks are solid, filled in the gaps with potters clay. Want to rig a smoker on their so if anyone has recommendations, 27"diameter grill.

Looks good DF!  If you want to use that pit as a smoker you'll need a lid that fits.  Providing you've found that I would then suggest making a small hole on one side down by the bottom of the pit (2-3" from the ground) and then another in the lid opposite that small hole.  That way you can draw air across a bed of coals/wood and out the other side. A couple of fire bricks in the middle can help with convection and moderating temps.

Nice but is that burnt? Looks like it to me but it could be a sweet/sugar sauce you added. I'd still eat it so it's all good.

How tall is the pit? I think the easiest and cheapest way to convert is to buy a burn pit and use the bottom as a cover, I even found the cheapest one that would work for you. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-Fire-Pit-28/54169733?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&adid=22222222227049089843&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=147093305022&wl4=pla-258394797574&wl5=9025241&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla_multichannel&wl10=8175035&wl11=online&wl12=54169733&wl13=&veh=sem#about-item

I know you'll have to assemble it so it's already apart. I would put a handle on it and install some type of breather on the top.The breather/vent on top could be a simple hole and then you can control it from the bottom where you took the brick out if the lid fits good. You could then use the screen top for a small backyard fire to prevent embers from flying out and if you make a top for the stand it should work as a perfect beer table between two lawn chairs. I'm just throwing ideas out but I think it'll work fine and it should also work as a brick oven. Can we say backyard PIZZA OVEN!!!!

Not bad man. Use some extra bricks to raise the grate if its too hot or get a big steel plate to cover half the pit move your coals underneath and cook indirectly. Just some stuff I've learned using the wheelbarrow. Chicken is a challenge on a open pit like that ...

30qt stainless mixing bowl is around 22" diameter. You can probably pick one up for under $20. That is likely a lot cheaper than getting a lid from a Weber kettle type grill.

Charred food photographs horribly I've seen some killer bark that looked like acrid crispies in a photo but not. I imagine that was killer.
