sun Sun Systems LEC 315.... ballast is internal.... Heat ??

I currently have a HydroFarm Phantom CMh 315 watt fixture inside of a 4x4x6ft7in Gorilla grow tent (lite version). I have the ballast for this fixture mounted outside of the tent. The ballast gets damn HOT. I've added a fan just to cool the ballast !

The Sun Systems LEC 315 has the ballast internal to the fixture. How can that NOT add a whole crap-ton of heat to the inside of the tent ????

Do you have to actively extract the heat from the Sun Systems LEC 315 fixture to make it work in a grow tent ??

Thanks, Jeff

just read thru about 15 various sites, and they say the heat is super manageable. No ducting needed. Looks like they draw 1/5th of the power of the older lamps. Seems pretty pricey thought.

Here in Minnesota we get the Siberia weather for about two months a year. Not something to rely on though :)

Discovered today that the LEC 315 comes in a "remote" version... Ballast is external.  Might look at that.

Then there is LED.  Not sure if I trust the LED... unless I spend a grand on it  I try to find reviews on LEDs for peppers. Tough to sort through all the LED for cannabis reviews

Maybe I'll try the LEDs when weed is legal here in MN.

I don't have much experience with grow tents yet.

Would it be unreasonable to use a LED during the periods when heat is an issue, and swapping back to your LEC 315 when the weather is colder?

That way you wouldn't have to get a top-end LED lighting system, just something good-enough to get you through summer, when you can grow outside anyways.
