CAPCOMS COCOA GROW 2018

Yes, I am so interested in putting 2017 behind that I am looking forward to 2018 this much.
I will be throwing a knuckle ball going into 2018.
I am procuring seed from reliable sources only and will be implementing various isolation methods as to continue a sound seed stock for future seasons.
I am also going to visit several chili head bros beginning this fall and spend some quality time talking the shop we all enjoy.
I will also be looking into some new nitrification processes as the one I have been using the past two years has let me down big time.
I will also be cutting back for the first time on my grow quantities. If I end up with 50 plants, that will be a lot! And all plants will be grown in 15 gal pots minimum.

Starting to formulate my list with,

Judys Brown Moruga
Bhutlah DM
Bhutlah SM
CPR from 2017
Chocolate Reaper
Chocolate Primo
Kracken Scorpion
7Pot Burgundy (the only non chocolate)
Chocolate MaddBalls
Chocolate Bhut
Chocolate Devils Tongue
Chocolate BBG
Chocolate Scorpion
Chocolate 7 Pot
Chocolate Fatalii
And that's just off the top of my head, I am sure more additions will follow.

I may be more scared of the big bad aphids then I let on earlier.

Although I have never observed them in person and or purchased them, I may have a species of parasitic wasp in my grow room right now. Unfortunately I am unable at present to procure a sharp enough pic to post for peer confirmation. On my wasabi that spent the summer outside in the shade and among the aphid population present on the underside of their leaves are multiple spherical cyst like pods that some on close observation appear to have leg like appendages attached. I will be watching very closely over the next several days.

I have allowed some time to pass from my 1st observation. I had what amounted to the onset of an aphid infestation mounting and allowed it to go unchecked. I have been waiting for the so called mummies to hatch out or to actually witness a wasp. Neither has happened but I got a few pics to share now.

Finally!

I found them.

I dont know which species, Colmani or Ervi if even either, but I do have parasitic wasps and they have knocked the $hit out of all the aphids that were on my wasabi. I am sure there are more aphids on my wifes plants so hopefully the wasps will endure the entire winter and be here for the next year.

There are mummies everywhere and no aphids anywhere I have looked. I smashed the few white flies I seen early on and have not seen another since. Another good sign. I could use a break this year.

I didn't get to plant on Thanksgiving as I had wanted but I wanted to confirm my wasp theory before inoculating the room. I will still get planted well before last years start and hopefully be transplanting to 15 gal pots, plants with pods. I am guessing this weekend would be a good one for finalizing selections and who knows, maybe even get them under dirt.

I am also waiting for my turn on a couple of trains. maybe I will find something I need to grow on them.

Those wasps are amazing. They were a godsend this last season by keeping the aphid completely in check.

What is really amazing is they just appeared on my wasabi plant. Didn't notice for a week after I brought it indoors and seen the mummies. I thought the leaves were coming down with some form of growths till I took a closer look and seen legs attached. I counted at least a half dozen walking about the leaves.

Trying something a little different.

I used to raise angelfish and made my own sponge filters. This sponge is special for all those unfamiliar with aquaculture. This sponge material is called open pore sponge. This means the sprouts can develop a root system throughout the sponge as there are no dead end pores.

This material is way less dense than the rock wool and will drain exceptionally well yet hold pockets of water here and there.

I actually found a few interesting selections on the seed train.

Good luck with your 2018 grow.  That's a lot of heat there.  I have a few aji's growing, but will start a few chinenese in January. Most of my pepper grow will
be annums.  I don't know why the superhots are the most productive peppers for me, if my sweet peppers could produce as much, I'd be in heaven.

The what's wrong with this picture question will play to your investigative skills. It's not a gimme, but not is also not that difficult.

My head hurts.

Looking good, Jeff. Those flood trays were an awesome find.  Nice score!

The wasp story is most interesting.  What a fortunate whim of nature to
provide you with them!  Great ally - I'l like to see them in my greenhouse,
but never have...

Awesome list - love the cocoa focus!  chocolate blends are among my top
three favorite powders, Great heat and flavor  :drooling:

That will be quite a grow, good luck going forward...

2018 has arrived! And time for an update.
Many sprouts and hooks so far but I also have some late starters or disappointments.
Some of which I have more seed to start and time to do so, others that came in damaged, I do not.
Still hoping though

I may just go with what I have and call it a start rather than try to play catch up for the next month,
. I will post a list of actual plants soon.

I have everything that I wanted to grow this year plus much more popping or showing a flurry of tru leaves. I received an bubble pac a while back with some very interesting seed. of which all but one so far has sprouted. Will be picking up an RO unit for my grow room to keep up with watering requirements. Pics coming soon.

Looking for Kraken scorpion seed. What I had has some how been compromised. I need only confirmed seed, not seed acquired from some one else unless there name is Mike Hess. Going to be a late start for them but still plenty of time.
