Spam Musubi

A friend was telling me about it when he lived in Hawaii, it's available at all of the 7-11's so I had to try it.
 
I fancy myself a devotee of Spam. My palette is highly refined to where I can appreciate the flavor nuances that permeate this canned meat product with a half life. I feel bad for those lacking this unique gift bestowed upon so few such as myself.  :rofl:
 
I searched Youtube and BAM so off I went to the Asian store for ingredients but didn't know most people add and make a terriyaki sauce so I improvised and it came out good except I need to work on my molding skills.
 
I made a sauce with sesame seed oil, Hoisin and soy sauce then fried the Spam and added the sauce when it was done.

How can you not have ever eaten Spam? I grew up eating it and other canned products, let me name a few of those salty products to get you through a long day on the water or in the woods.
 
Spam, sardines, potted meat, vienna sausages, bean dip, smoked oysters, kippered snacks, jerky, Slim Jims and of course chips.. No cooler required and all you needed was crackers or bread, mustard, hot sauce and a knife to get all the salt you need to replenish your body.
 
My favorite go to quick meal fishing is a 16oz Coke and 2 bags of salted peanuts. Drink some of the Coke then dump the peanuts inside and eat as you drink, the flavor is amazing. The Coke will foam when the salt hits it but just slurp up all that goodness and keep going. That will hold you for hours. I think it's the original Redbull!!!
 
We didn't eat it every week like the countries that love it but then again some love it and some eat to replace meat. 
 
 
 
The closest I can come to that is, Yoohoo and a slim jim while fishing... lol.

I wont touch potted meat and most bologna unless its Kosher. Growing up around cattle, hogs and slaughter houses put an end to "mystery" meats for me. I will destroy a can of good sardines or smoked kippers with some eggs though.
 
I can only tolerate canned ham products like SPAM fried in smallish amounts. I wont even touch bologna unless its fried to be honest. Just dont care for it.
 
One of my favorites besides jerky/summer sausage for camping is small smoked sturgeon. The skin is so tough its like it has its own packaging and it keeps well in cool temps during hunting season.

Yeah well SPAM to a baked ham is like bologna to mortadella (good bologna). ;)
 
Ive had one from eastern Europe or Russian bologna that appeared to have been lightly smoked. Now it was very tasty. The international market i go to has lots of "eastern" processed meats/sausages. I sample them when on sale. The real polish sausage i got last time was outstanding. I think it translated into home style or country style sausage?

That is exactly why i only get Kosher hotdogs or at least Kosher quality all beef hotdogs. Most bologna or baloney is nothing more than a huge hotdog.
 
lol, yup, used to eat allot of European sausages/salami's back then, now they have to conform to this countries "health code". Found out the product I ate in Germany is not the same recipe that's in this country.
 
A Filipino buddy's mom would make spam fried rice back in the day that was damn delicious.  Every once in awhile my dad would fry slices up and serve em with biscuits for breakfast and that was good too.  That's about the total of my experience with spam. 
 
We have a butcher shop on the northside and their bologna is awesome.  Paulina Meat Market - it's the only bologna that I'll eat.  Never been into any other canned meat product - not even canned sardines or seafood - though I have progressed to using canned sardines in cooking and canned crabmeat when necessary.

I have six cans of the original and two of the jalapeno variety in my pantry.
 
You know in case of WW3 breaking out and such.
 
Not only that but for when mrs. blues is out of bacon.
 
I know how can that happen right?
 
Woman eats so much bacon that just the other day she stubbed her toe.
 
I was expecting her usual "ouch...motherfucker!!!!"
 
But no.
 
All I heard was squeelin'.
 
And just last week she whooped up some scrammies and diced Spam fried up hot blue and righteous.
 
She slapped a heap of scheeze on it till it was all melty and onto a street taco sized flour tore' tillah'.
 
I stole one.
 
After that I was all Samuel L. Jackson n' sheeit.
 
"MMMMM! This IS a tasty brekkie taco!!"
 
 
 
 
 
Got started making my own musubi lately, I got all the stuff I needed online, then went to start, 
read the labels on everything and I had the same Furikake as in the picture, and the 
ingredients has lead listed in it, went to online reviews and seems this company moved
production from Japan to China and the ingredients list changed, went to the store and they
have it, I told an employee about it and then bought some non-lead Furikake. 
 
 
Did you see that in the California warning? They are fruit-loops and have warnings for breathing, let it go.
 
The lead is the seaweed living in the water. It's natural and it's in all the seafood you eat too. The oceans contain lead and some nutjob politician in Cali passed a law. 
 
I give you credit for bringing this up!  I didn't know about this   "Much of the nori that is packaged and sold in the U.S. seems to be farmed in Korea"

I still don't think it makes that much of a difference or Hawaiians would all be dead. The probably eat as much as the whole US.

Yep perfect example right here. This is a warning on a bottle of kelp extract I use for gardening.
 
I'm surprised Cali doesn't have a warning for Spam.  Wait a second
 
I just checked... Here's a quote from the article.
