Everything Fried

Searched for a deep fried thread....there probably is one but I didn't find it. But who doesn't love fried food? So here's my start to the "everything fried" topic.

Tonkatsu, not to be confused with tonkotsu soup. With a tonkatsu sauce (non fructose heinz ketchup, worcestershire, soy sauce, mirin, brown sugar, garlic powder, dijon mustard, hot sauce)

Not at all, dude

No fryer here (yet!). I talked to my grandmother on the phone the other day, and she's been trying to push her fryer onto me all year (no idea how big or how old it is). She's desperately trying to get rid of it. She's been a QVC FANATIC since they first aired, haha. Can't complain though. I recently acquired her Belgian waffle maker from her that she probably bought in the early 80's

Still works! ;)

who says you need a fryer to fry? Pot or pan + oil. if you want to be fancy, a thermopen is a nice addition so you know what temp you're actually cooking at haha. The tonkatsu was fried in about 3/4 inch of oil in a shallow pan and the marsala was fried in 1/4 inch of oil in my 12" non stick pan. I've deep fried chickens in my dutch oven before plenty of times, but used a thermopen to keep an eye on the temp for that one

speaking of popeyes, how does their chicken tenders fare? I've never had them. More of a spicy breast type of person, which is about the only thing i get from there...and red beans and rice

Tomorrow supposed to be 20c, been waiting for warm weather to do a fry. Wont do it inside, people dont realize how much oil evaporates into the air and sticks to the walls lol.
Mother used to do this raisin sweet dough dumplings in the fryer now and then, was awesome.

Popeyes is the best large chain chicken imo.

Harold's is the best in Chicago imo.

I'll be posting here soon Big B, but the wonderful wifey tends to frown on frying things too often.  Yoga teachers are like that lol.  :)

Looks like some kind of starch like flour but not a batter or breading.

Probably just dusted with flour and simple spices like grandma made. Skin is really crispy and the meat was juicy.

They even had Trappeys and Franks on the table!!!!

Trappey's is old old school....

ayam goreng, malaysian fried chicken. marinated 24hr with the paste which is mostly shallots, ginger, garlic, thai chilis, lemon grass, sugar, salt, turmeric, fennel, coriander, madras curry powder
