seeds 9A germination time

I seem to always start germinating too late into the season. I live in SE Texas (9A zone) with a March 1-10 last frost. I do not have a lot of room to store 1 gallon pots in my house during the frost 4 pots are okay though. When should I begin germinating?

Zone 9a has a really long growing season. I have an aunt that lives in southeast Texas and she's usually harvesting long before I am. When have you been starting your seeds and what varieties are you growing?

I am in far north Texas, I like to get my seeds started about 8 weeks before my last frost (for me its around March 15-20th)  I start my seeds around mid January. Since you have a couple weeks ahead of me for last frost, I'd recommend the start of January. Some like to get bigger seedlings and start even earlier, but for me due to space issues etc, I like the 8 week mark.

Sorry I meant to mention that I am growing mostly super hots. Last two seasons I didnt start till the end of February.

Yea end of February is way too late. Especially for super hots  You don't need to keep the seedlings in one gallon pots either if its a space issue. A simple 4 inch pot is plenty big enough for a seedling before planting outside.

I usually start around Dec 1 with germinating here in Dallas.

Takes a few weeks usually to germinate, then get them a little time in the seed starter tray with dome, then transplant into the indoor grow tent under LED.  I would say I dont have anything in the grow tent until at least mid January.  1.5 months or so in there and I can usually be in the ground some time in the first 2 weeks of March.
