Primo released some new pepper seeds

Perhaps I should have said that not as many people offer those as say... reaper, Savina, 7 pot varieties, jalapeno etc.

Says they are F6, so I would imagine they are stable right?
It's all about numbers. Look at how the big tomato breeders do it. Anybody that is jumping into this money grab is not taking these to F8 of even F6. If they are, they are foolish or have no space to grow a thousand plants.

Do you really think selling pepper seeds is  money grab?  When I think of the time to plant, tend and then dry, sort and count: I think most seed prices I see are more than fair.

I look at the seed purchase as an investment. I've never seen a caramel mama anywhere. $8 for what will be more than 20 seeds is a good investment to me. The mamas are heavy producers. Even at wholesale price a single plant is going to produce $50+ in a year. If you only get 5 good plants out of the pack, you are doing good. If you isolate your best plant and produce seeds, your investment compounds dividends for years to come. I bought multiple packs which also averaged out the shipping per pack. I'm lucky, I can grow the same plant for years so I don't have to buy lots of new seeds. As it is, I probably have 10,000 seeds sitting around from previous years. They are all stored properly though.

1. As far as I know, Troy's seeds are isolated.

2. Prices are in the same range as some of the biggest names (Duffy, Puckerbutt, Hippyseed etc)

3. You should consider the value of buying seeds directly from the creator, an expert too (Troy is an horticolturist)

4. I consider buying from him a double investment: I get quality seeds and help Troy in developing new projects.

5. Should I spend extra bucks, they'd be in seeds: worst thing for a grower is putting time and money over a plant which finally reveals untrue.

I've grown Primo plants from Troy's seeds the last 2 season, and I got some of the healthiest plants ever.

I think we should be happy about this release, instead of being here questioning about prices, but that's just my opinion.
It's no secret Troy is one of the people I respect the most in this pepper community.

Everything Guitarman said but more.  He mentioned some of the big time folk: "Duffy, Puckerbutt, Hippyseed etc".  No offense to these folk, but if we do not support start ups then the big time folk will be all there is.  This goes even more so for developers like Primo.  For the most part, what happens is a developer put tons of time and effort into creating something new, then the big time folk get ahold of it and start making money off it.  When ever possible, we should buy from the developer so they continue to develope..

Do I think selling seeds is a money grab? No. I don't remember saying that. Do I think selling unstable chinense X unstable chinense, giving it a silly name, and then selling it before it's stable is? Yes,yes I do.

That's where the market is. I don't knock anybody for doing it. I would encourage anyone who is trying to make money to do the same thing.

I didn't buy these seeds because I'm not all that stoked on those particular varieties, but I did buy some 7pot Primo seeds from him. And a t shirt, top make the shipping more sensible. I'm happy to support a business like Primo's Peppers, and I'm not gonna grouse about a few extra bucks. I won't have to worry about if they're really Primos or not, LOL. And I'm sure every little sale counts for a business like Troy's..

Got my order in today.  He is using those plastic bubble wrap envelopes.  I forget the name, TVP or something like that.  Very professional packaging.  On the inside, a hand written thank you note.  Shipping was fast and professional.

I got mine Saturday and it has 23 seeds inside so he not being cheap. He using bubble mailers. I'm sure he put extra stickers in there too, right?

Like most pepperheads, I get very excited about new varieties becoming available. I'm going to give Primo's seeds a shot (thanks for letting us know they're available Rajun). His prices seem very reasonable and worth every penny. Can't wait to grow the "big black mama!"

Sign up for Primo's email list, and you'll get notification when seeds are available, same day they put then on the site. They never spammed me or gave my address out... They just give me a heads up when products become available.
