heat what is the hottest pepper in your mind?

there are many people claiming who has the hottest pepper. I was wondering what you guys think! Personally I do not believe that the new pepper x is the hottest because how can a green mustard chili get hotter than one million SHUs? So what do you think is the hottest chili? let me know. also what is the best tasting and hottest chili out there(besides scotch bonnet)?
 
Pepper X did test at an average of 3.18 million so yes, it really is that hot. The hottest pepper I've had was a whole Carolina reaper and it was terribly hot. The heat went away after about 15 minutes but I had terrible stomach cramps all night long. The flavor of a reaper isn't terrible but it's quickly overshadowed by the intense heat.
 
Pepper X is not a mustard, green, gator or turd coloured pepper. Its final colour is red.

That said, the sauce seen above is quite underwhelming. It's hotter than any Reaper sauce, sure, but not even close to the 2.4 million claims made about it.
With Smokin' Ed's secret cold pressed pepper oils in there, who knows if the pepper itself is even hot?

Pepper X tested at 3.18 million. Not the sauce. The pepper itself. Yes it has not been confirmed yet but all the reading I've done on it says that it should be acknowledged by guinness this month. I also spoke to ed currie personally at the California hot sauce expo and he said it was accepted by Guinness. Not that that means anything.. Could just be publicity, but he also explained to me the process with lawyers and all that crap. I don't see why he would go to such lengths if it weren't true. Would probably end up making him and his company look bad if it were bogus.

Well, if we set aside Pepper X and the claims being made about it, then we are left with a bunch of high-end superhots that seem to be roughly comparable in terms of heat. Douglahs, Bhutlahs, Chocolate Brain Strains, Brown Morugas and the like will all take you for a ride on the pain train if you eat one. And people are breeding more and more of their own superhot crosses every year. It would be pretty hard to say which one is really "the hottest" without doing HPLC testing on a bunch of them. And even if one of them actually is, say, 10% hotter than anything else out there, would you really be able to tell the difference if you ate one?

The Yellow Brain Strain combines high heat with a very pleasant fruity flavor. It is far hotter than a Scotch Bonnet. The pods can get pretty large as well. It is one of my favorite peppers.
 
Red brainstrain from Wicked Mike. Hottest damn thing I've ever eaten. Ate half, searing pain, cap cramps set in at 15 minutes and lasted 45. Had to go sit on the can just in case. When I got up, there was a huge puddle of sweat on the floor in front of me that dripped off my head. Cap cramps gave way to an extended period of euphoria.

From what I've seen here (also check some YouTube videos) several people will agree that whatever the Scoville scales say, brainstrain is the hottest pepper they have ever had.

Edited to add: I have the 13mil Pure Cap, which I've only added to food, but the brainstrain kicked my ass way more.

Some just hurt more than others. Not many can keep up with the pain a 7 pot brain strain will bring.

Agreed. After eating anything that hot, it really doesn't matter anymore. This is a pic of me after eating a whole carolina reaper. And no, that is not my natural skin color. It was HOT!

Worst experience with cap by far. I wouldn't call vertigo euphoric lol

In powder or flake form, the heat difference between a Reaper and a Bhutlah or Jigsaw seems pretty obvious to me.
The Jigsaw's also the only fresh pepper I doubt I'll ever cook with again but I've never seen a fresh Bhutlah.

Out of curiosity, why is your bottle of last dab red? I thought it was mustard color?

Curious. I've had the Brainstrain in jam and loved it and, cooking with the actual dried pods, the 1.4 million ratings I've seen seem accurate.
 
The chilli in a mango chutney I tried, though, was freakishly hot and it too claimed to be Brainstrain, even if it tasted and felt nothing like the one I knew. More of a spiky heat than most supers.

Mine was, indeed, a yellowy, greeny shade but it also had a bit of bitterness to it. Not extract like someone trying to cheat the heat but more like an underripe sort.
Then pictures like the one seen above started cropping up all over the Hot Ones subreddit and now you can even see an orangey red bottle or two on the show. Heatonist, the store that sells it, had this to say:

Agree with everyone who says the Red Brain is ridiculously hot and so is the Reaper. I have a Red Naga Brain that is growing like mad and throwing out monstrous pods that, to me, is hotter and more uncomfortable than either of the previously mentioned ones. I have a pint mason jar full of red naga powder that I'm having a hard time finding use for. The intensity and duration of the heat is way beyond my enjoyment level.

Why would they use an unripe pepper when the ripe ones typically contain the most heat? Doesn't make any sense
