heat what is the hottest pepper in your mind?

Why would they use an unripe pepper when the ripe ones typically contain the most heat? Doesn't make any sense

Speed of release?
I have no idea but the only pepper I've grown that went through that extra shade of yellowy green took about a month to leave it. Thought I had a gator varient.

from this video he state that CHOCOLATE WRECKING BALL X 7-POT BROWN is the hottest he has had in 2017

I would check it out

Yes, but if you read the description, he gives his opinion on the 7 hottest peppers he has tried. This thing didn't even make the list (it is probably still an unstable cross anyway). He names the Chocolate Bhutlah SM as the hottest pod he has tried. I think I have seen other reviewers give things like the Chocolate Bhutlah DM and the CP115 as their top picks. Still, without actual HPLC test numbers these all come down to just one person's subjective opinion. Also, remember that individual pods can vary a bit in heat, even if they came from the same plant. Which makes it even trickier when we are trying to split hairs about which insanely hot pepper variety might be slightly hotter than all of the other face-melters out there. It is a little like trying to determine which volcano is the hottest in the world just by sticking your finger in the lava.  :)

There is also a video of this dude smoking a Carolina Reaper out of a bong... some people like him, some people don't, but to me that just screams "anything for views". Check out Nigel's or Peter S' pod reviews. They are thoughtful, well described, and don't involve puking.

If they've got a sauce that contains the *new* world's hottest pepper, then lotsa people want to buy it. It debuted on the Hot Ones series, and thats when interest formed. But interest dies down over time, so they had to get the sh!t to market, pronto. So, they pick the peppers unripe. But now, the peppers are ripening, and so's the sauce. Its all about the $$$$$

I saw on THP but can't find the thread... Ripe peppers are hotter than green/unripe in Scoville tests, but can seem less hot on the palate due to the sugars that form as a pepper ripens. The sweetness can lessen the perception of heat in our mouths, even if the absolute value of heat in ripe peppers is greater.

Pepper X at 3mil SHU is BS, unless there's documentation from a reputable lab.
Give it 9 days and we'll know for sure.
I have more faith in Pepper X than I had in Dragon's Breath and the Sugar Rush Vanilla but the last of those, while not 3 million, was definitely the hottest baccatum I've ever had.

I don't know what's the hottest, and I don't care. I just want to say that this whole "it wasn't actually a mustard! It was just unripe!" story sounds like the usual Ed Currie/ Pucker Butt BS. I believe basically NOTHING said by that whole camp. Habitual liars, and bullies.
My main bone to pick with them is that 90% of their reason for being in the chilli game is the money. Sure, they're a business, so making money is their job, but surely there is a more transparent, responsible, straightforward and honest way of doing so? I don't like being strung along, not one bit. If they think they have a new hottest, they should go to the labs, get it tested, get it certified, and then share it with the world (at a profit, obviously). None of this "we're still waiting for confirmation, but you can buy our over-priced, limited stock now" BS.

This "oh yeah, it wasn't ripe before" crap really makes my blood boil.

I'll stop ranting now...

Shame, cos I thought the best thing about Pepper X is that it WASNT red.. nothing against red chillies its just that I think it would be cool if another colour took the title and mustard is one of the more unusual colours.

Yeah, we've seen so many red chillies that this one seemed exciting and different. That's part of why I went in on it. It's definitely some kind of con, though.

Maybe there is a record underneath it, maybe there isn't. Either way, it's not what they said it was and the sauce falls short of their claims in every respect. Hopefully the pepper does fall short and Ed's crappy publicity stunt shoots him in the foot.

Mustard would be cool to see in the top spot but nothing scares the crowds at a chilli eating competition like a white or peach. My personal preference, though, would be Pink.

There are so few peppers that finish pink and they're all sold as purples due to their pre-ripening shade. It would be great to see them gain awareness and having their unique colouration as the way to tell a ripe record holder would be an excellent way to get it.

Hottest I've come across so far: reddish-brown Chocolate Bhutlahs. Insanely hot.

Also, I don't like the aroma/flavor of most browns (not into floral/earthy/smokey), but these actually have a really good flavor, in my opinion. Maybe, it's because they are more reddish than the average chocolate pod?

The bright 4000k LED lighting in these pics make them look more red than they actually are, but they do have a red tinge to them even in natural lighting.

nice pods man! I wish the new hottest pepper was a different color and I do agree pink is super scary, but if you want a hot pepper it will probably be a red or chocolate color.
