Buncha Malarky 2018 edition

Welcome to 2018
There is probably not going to be a whole lot of action around here until March 1st when I'll start soaking seeds.
I was overwhelmed in 2017, starting in January was not a good idea. This year I plan to pot up the plants in stride and avoid being root bound. Starting in March and outside in buckets in the middle to end of May. I'll probably try to sell excess plants locally on CL/FB as well, instead of trying to keep every seed I sprout alive myself.

2018 Grow List so far...
SB7J
7pot Cinder
PDN x Bonda
Peach Bhut-WM strain
CGN21500-WM strain
LemonDrop
PapaDreadie SS-Good Pheno from TGCM
Aji Limo Rojo
Aji Limo Amarillo
Aji Panca
Giant Red Rocoto
Peruvian Red Rocoto-OW
Yellow Brainstrain-Growdown

I'm really struggling to decide if I should grow Aji Amarillo, Big Red Rocoto's, and maybe even Panca now that I found frozen amarillos/rocotos and panca paste at the store now. And the amarillos and rocoto's take soo long to ripen...
I'd like to fit in Aji Dulce, Aji Arnaucho, cgn23209, SugarRush Peach and Trepadeira do Werner, but I don't know.

I've got enough BahaGoats in the freezer to last me I think. I actually might have enough Amarillos too now that I think of it.
I'm growing cgn21500 just to finally get it off my bucket list. I hope its good.
The more I type, the more bummed i get that i can't grow all these...

I have 6500 k in a 4 bulb T8, they are about a foot away from the smaller plants and they don't seem to be stretching. The seedlings I just put under it could probably be closer. I might sit them up on something

Oh and I came to this thread with a question and then forgot, lol.

I got some seeds from you labeled "5 color" is that Chinese 5 color?

One is purple

Edit- internet was being weird

Before I found the 6,500k bulbs for the T8's they had 4,500k bulbs. The plants grew really well under them, and as mentioned above, you can keep them closer. When I had the 45's I used them for the new starts.

As for spacing: I have found that you should allow for the future. I was hurting for more height the last 2 indoor seasons..

Lots of delicious looking food going on here, Matt. We might have started our seeds at the same time. Mine are tiny and it's good to see that the CGN 21500 is looking purple for you. I hope you have a great season. I'll be following.

I got one of my new T8 fixtures rewired and set up.
more light, less energy, and a little warmer than my old T12's

Also made some space in the freezer by using up all my green baccatum pods i saved.

Tomatillos, onion, garlic roasted in the oven till you get some little charred bits.
Into the blender with whole pile of green Amarillo, Lemondrop, and Bishop's Crown pods.
Juice of half a lemon and 1/2 cup of ACV.
liquify, push through a strainer to get all those bitty seeds out, boil and bottle.

very bright and fresh, a great way to use green pods at the end of the season.

Except for the snow, it's looking good Matt. I "liked" your snow pic just so I could un-like it... lol! Cool that you're still making sauces with last season's harvest. Keep up the good work!

Made Pecan Pie this weekend. Yum

Found some dried bhuts at my small town grocery.

Finished my shelves and new lights. Just need to get something to insulate a little bit and another mylar sheet.
Starting to pot everything up. probably won't get outside permanently until the end of May so this will let them stretch their feet a bit.

That peruvian red rocoto in my upstairs window is prolific! tons of new flowers everyday and just about every flower is setting fruit. i think I've only lost 2 buds. I'm not sure how its going to like it outside again but it really likes my indoor environment.

The kids will remember that time in the snow, good on ya ;)

Plants are doing well, and should be monsters come the end of May.

I like your grow station, plenty of room for the plants to get taller. I made mine too low..

Did you save me a slice of the wonderful pie?

Hey man sorry i missed this, yeah it was probably a Chinese 5 Color.
I wondered lol.

I have since looked it up and it is supposed to be a purple foliage plant. So it is possible I mixed the seeds up or maybe have a cross. One plant doesn't show any signs of wanting to go purple at all.

The pecan pie looks good. And the purple flower is crazy!

What do you guys think of this one? mutant?
This is the first flower on one of my Giant Red Rocoto. looks like there are lots petals and stamen.
could I hope for Conjoined Giant Rocoto's!

That plant is grown from seeds I sent you, right?

If so, then that happens to me all the time with my giant red rocoto pods. It ends up making one pod, with several large lobes on the sides. It kind of ends up looking like a mutant apple rocoto. Just as delicious, though.

Also, sometimes when you crack open the rocoto pod, there is a small underdeveloped rocoto inside of the larger pod.
