"You cant have this" Marketting ???

Last Dab is best example of what I am wondering.  You can not purchase Pepper X Pods or seeds.  So there is the "you cant have this" part of the marketing.  But then there is the except in The Last Dab hot sauce.  Saw the same with Chocolate Bhutlah.  Forget the hot sauce, but for the longest time there was 'you cant have this' and then the sauce came, so we had the except in this hot sauce.  The same was true of Fatalii Gourmet Jigsaw.  For much time, you could buy it as a powder but could not purchase the seeds.

Kind of wondering if the system isnt perfect for folk who develop new peppers.  It takes maybe 8 years minimum to get a new line stable. Then the developer has maybe year before lots of after market folk are selling the seed.  Maybe offering it as a hot sauce or powder first is a great route for developers to recoupe before everyone is selling their seeds.

Kinda tired of the pepper x thing to be honest. If it's hype they're after, well they've already accomplished that. It's time for them to put up or shut up at this point cuz i'm tired of hearing about it. I spent $40 on two bottles of sauce with this mystery pepper in it and still nobody knows what it is. I'm passionate about growing peppers and hot sauce. That's the bottom line, but if I wanted to hear about gossip and drama, I would watch TMZ. It's a little ridiculous at this point :deadhorse:

This is the 3rd incarnation of the same question.

Sorry, should have stayed on one thread.  Thing is, this seems like a related but different angle. Now we are talking bait and switch.  I remember the name now: Chocolate Plague.  First there was massive interest in Chocolate Bhutlah SM after that FBI review.  Seems like things that make folk puke are good sellers.  So the creator hooks up with Puckerbutt.  I think the folk there are marketing genius.

Despite the no commercial use rule for Puckerbutt seeds, people have already started to grow and sell Chocolate Bhutlah SM.  Seems like when seed releases take place, the original developer only has about a year before everyone else is selling it.  So Puckerbutt releases the hot sauce first.  That way they can make money off the pepper before releasing it.

Is bait and switch.  I think an excellent way for developers to get more than that first year of seed sales out of their labor.  Hoping Chocolate Plague made bank for StandandFire.  Would say the same about Puckerbutt but figure they already have enough money.  So thrilled to think the little guy got some of that pie for a change
